Outpatient AODA Counselor

General Purpose

The AODA Counselor is responsible for the assessment, education, and treatment of clients experiencing substance use disorders.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Provide direct and coordinated services to chemically dependent women and their children, utilizing internal program modalities and external linkages when required
  • Develop a treatment plan for clients including explaining assessment results, identifying client needs in written plan, and formulating immediate and long-term goals
  • Conduct one-on-one and group therapy sessions
  • Provide AODA education to clients
  • Perform all required record keeping and paperwork related to treatment and work at Meta House
  • Perform client assessment including gathering relevant history, identifying sources and obtaining collaborative information, explaining rationale to clients
  • Assure authorization and continued re-authorization for caseload as may be necessary through insurance and Milwaukee County funding

  • Other duties as may be periodically or permanently assigned

Qualifications and Requirements

  • CSAC
  • Master’s degree in Social Work or Counseling
  • Professional License appropriate for degree
  • Driver’s license, safe driving record, and proof of vehicle insurance

  • Organizational and planning skills
  • Able to work in a multi-cultural setting
  • Able to integrate mental health treatment into AODA treatment
  • Able to understand and navigate insurance systems
  • Computer skills including proficiency in Word, Excel, and other applications

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Able to negotiate the indoors including stairs (Residential and Housing)
  • Able to hear and talk with clients
  • Able to document in client charts

Reports to: Outpatient Program Manager
