We’ll continue Unit 7 this week. The skill emphasis of Unit 7 is on whole number operations and measurement and data. Students will solve addition problems with three or more addends, explore length units, measure and compare lengths and use frequency tables and line plots. We will finish up and test Unit 7 on Thursday, March 17th.

Communication Arts

We’ll begin Unit 5 this week. The big idea question for the unit is; What does it mean to be responsible? The question of the week is; Why should we be responsible for doing a good job? The comprehension is fact and opinion. The phonics/ spelling skill is suffix patterns; ly, ful, er, ish. In writing, we’ll focus on pronouns. We’ll also focus on writing an expository non-fiction piece. The vocabulary words for this week are; awaken, cliffs, mountain, prize, rainbow, suffer, & volcano. The tested high frequency words are know and won’t.

Unit (Science and Social Studies)

We’re going to begin our last science unit on Insect as soon as the weather is warm enough to ship the live insects. Until then, we'll continue working on some traditional March themed activities.

Parent Notes: Parents thanks for all you do. Please help me keep the students focused, as the days get warmer and longer. Springtime is wonderful but it makes for some difficult time for students to stay on task.

Junior Achievement

We will begin JA in April. We will be learning about Communities from Mrs. Luckenbaugh, a Hershey Company employee. She’ll join us for 5 lessons throughout April. I’m sure the students will enjoy these lessons and learning from Mrs. L.
