514 Kinsmen RCAC Squadron

May 18th, 2018

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

The weekend of 18th – 20th May, 2018, we will be participating in an aircrew survival training weekend at Camp St. George, Salmonier Line (close to Holyrood). The cadets will be participating in mandatory training as per proficiency level, as well as learning survival skills such as air crew survival. The cadets will be sleeping outside the entire weekend.

We ask the cadets to arrive at theSurgeon Lieutenant-Commander W. Anthony Paddon Buildingfor 1830hrsMay 18th, the bus will be leaving at 1900hrs; this gives us enough time to collect any permission slips and medications. Please make sure your cadet has something to eat before they leave home as supper may be late when we arrive at camp. We will be returning on Sunday 1400 hrs. and the cadets will be allowed to leave after all equipment is stored. They will have access to a cell phone. We ask that the permission slips be passed in at the night they are dropped off to the building. There will also be a copy on our website, and there will be extras at the building on the night they are dropped off.

The squadron staff shares concerns regarding the personal equipment that the cadets must bring with them. In the past we have several instances where cadets did not bring all appropriate attire. Everything listed on the kit list is very important for the cadets to have. It gets very cold in the night times, so cadets must have the right equipment to keep themselves warm and safe. Please contact one of the members of our staff if you have any questions regarding items on the kit list or the outing itself. Our staff will be watching the weather frequently but we ask you do as well so your child is properly dressed for the weekend.

We will be ensuring the cadets have all the appropriate equipment when we arrive at camp. The cadets MUST NOT bring the following items:

  • Knives (pocket knives, hunting knives...etc.)
  • Money
  • Matches and Lighters
  • Make- up
  • Nut products
  • Fish Products
  • Perfumes or scents of any kind
  • NO Suitcases
  • Absolutely NO electronics, Cell phones at own risk.

Cadets will not need any money with them on this trip. Everything, including meals and snacks, will be provided. To avoid situations such as missing money, please ensure cadets do not bring any with them. If cadets wish to bring ANY electronics, please ensure their names are marked clearly on the items. The squadron IS NOT RESPONISBLE FOR ANY MISSING OR STOLEN ITEMS.

Cadets are ask not to use their cellphones during cadet activities.

We also ask for kids to only pack a bag that they can carry, in previous years we had cadets who pack so much that they could not carry their items themselves...

If you have ANY questions feel free to contact our staff. We will be taking it with us during the outing.
