LUTON TOWN CEDARS ELITE FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME PROSPECTUS
Qualification and Exam Board / The Football Development Programme is not subject to formal examination.
Course Description / Participants are given the opportunity to train for a minimum of 10 hours a week during the curriculum and after school in term time. During the school holidays student will be required to train for a minimum of5 hours a week. Students will have the opportunity to participate in games on a weekly basis in either or both of the Football Conference Youth Alliance or the Southern Counties Floodlit Leagues.
What Will I Learn / The Elite Football Development Programme involves all the elements of practical and theoretical work undertaken by a Full Time Scholar in a Professional Football Club.
Students will have the opportunity to:
  • Develop technical and tactical understanding under the guidance of the Luton Town FC /Cedars Upper UEFA ‘A’ Licence Head Coach
  • Participate in coaching sessions based around, Functional Practices, Phases of Play, Small Sided Games and 11 v 11’s.
  • Develop athletically and physically under the guidance of a Luton Town FC / Cedars Senior Sports Science Expert.
  • Understand the importance of a Healthy Lifestyle and Nutrition.
  • Develop the discipline required within a team and a working environment.

What Are The Entry Requirements / To have reached the 6th Form 5GCSE passes at A* to C entry level requirements to be able to participate in the required 3 ‘A’ Levels for the Elite Football Development Programme.The 3 chosen ‘A’ Level Subjects must have GCSE passes A* to B. If you are unable to undertake 3 ‘A’ Levels you will not be accepted. Final Grades are not a guarantee of acceptance; because of the additional pressures we may require students to have higher than A* to C. Cedars Upper will ultimately have the discretion whether they decline or accept any individual application.
Specific Skills Required / This is not a recreational football course and therefore applicants must be playing regular club football to a good standard and ideally would be playing representative football or in a professional club Academy or Development Centre. A solid football base is required with players having reached a good level of development in all 5 TIPS Criteria (Technique, Insight (game), Personality (football), Strengths (Pace and ABC's)
How Will I Be Assessed. / Each student will receive two written football assessments per year; one at Christmas and one at the end of the season. Each assessment will be accompanied by a student / parent meeting with the Head Coach to receive more comprehensive feedback.
What Are The Costs. / The complete training kit and match travel kit and bag is valued at £330. Luton Town will pay £100 of this the player must pay the balance. Kit purchase is compulsory. Gym membership is £180 per year again this is compulsory. Gym sessions are a significant part of our syllabus.
Future Opportunities. / Exit routes from the programme are as follows:
  • Progression to Professional Scholarship with Luton Town FC
  • Scholarships in the USA
  • Degree / Football Programmes at specialist colleges in the UK, such as Hartpury
  • University
  • Football experience in 2nd year with local semi professional clubs
  • Guidance into the correct levels of Senior Adult Football.
