Web Design Skills – Assessment #2

Units Covered:ICAB4135B – Create a simple mark-up language to specification

ICAB4169B – Use development software and IT tools to build a basic website

ICAS4201B – Transfer content to a website using commercial packages

Instructions:

You will be asked to reproduce a simple one page website using Notepad and/or Notepad ++. This will be a closed book assessment for you to demonstrate your HTML skills.

Scenario:

You have been asked to create a web page for a café called, ‘Coffee Bean Good’. The client wants a basic HTML web page and they have even given you the design for the site. This includescolour codes that they would like to use as well as images and banners.

Task Details:

Task 1: Practice Makes Perfect

This design brief as well as the images and colour codes that you need to complete this page can all be found on Moodle (Week 9). I would highly suggest that you practice building the page before the due date. This willensure that you are ready to construct the webpage on the due date.

Task 2: Develop Webpage

On the due date you will be asked to come into class and use one of the PCs(you will not be able to use your own laptop), to reproduce the Coffee Bean Good web page. You will have 3 hours to develop the web page.

If you are late you will not be given any extra time to complete the assessment unless a reasonable explanation is given.

The Coffee Bean Good webpage must meet the following requirements:

  • Open up Notepad and or Notepad ++ and type in your code to reproduce the desired web page.
  • You will be asked to complete the web page without the use of notes and/or you will not be able to ask and/or talk to any other students within the class.
  • You can only use HTML
  • The layout needs to be completed in one HTML table
  • Insert the banner, buttons and image into the page
  • Any items(buttons and the links in the footer) that need to be a link, rather than linking it to another page or site – just use the # key. (if you are unsure on what this means please ask your teacher)

Task 3: Upload Website
Once you have completed the HTML web page or with 20 minutes left in the assessment, you will be asked to attach a link to your index.html (student page) to the Coffee Bean Good page and upload it to the richmondit.net.au web server.

This way your work will be accessible over the internet for marking.

Questions:

If you have any questions about the design brief above please feel free to contact me before the due date, either in class and/or via email:
