PURPOSE OF JOB / To contribute to the work of the Service by:
·  providing education for students out of school temporarily for medical or related reasons and those excluded or vulnerable to exclusion from schools.
·  supporting reintegration procedures in co-operation with schools and other agencies.

The postholder must at all times carry out his/her responsibilities within the spirit of the City Council’s Policies and Procedures, in particular the Council Policies on Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety and also, within the framework of the Education Act 1996.

JOB DESCRIPTION FOR POST OF:- PE Teacher
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To support the Headteacher and Team Leaders in the development of the Service.

a)  To work with the Senior Leadership team (SLT) and Team Leaders to develop the part played by the Service in the policy of inclusion of students in school and other provision.

b)  To promote an appropriate ethos and curriculum that facilitates an effective learning environment, provides continuity and enables reintegration into school, wherever possible.

c)  To have understanding of all legal requirements with regard to students out of school, safeguarding, education legislation and guidance that relates to the management and education of children who experience barriers to learning.

d)  To participate in staff meetings, curriculum meetings and support SLT and Team Leaders in attendance at appropriate case meetings or meetings with other agencies.

2. To secure and sustain effective teaching in the Service, and to monitor and evaluate teaching and student achievement, working to targets for improvement.

a)  To undertake a teaching role, leading in PE over a range of Key Stages and to teach to the highest standards in line with the duties of a schoolteacher as set out in the latest Conditions of Employment document. To be an excellent practitioner in teaching, supporting and reintegrating students.

b)  To support both teaching and non teaching staff across the whole service in their planning and delivery of PE based curriculum/activities.

c)  To monitor record and report on the progress of students within their individual programmes of study, and to ensure that the requirements of internal and external accreditation are met.

d)  To demonstrate good practice and up to date knowledge in PE, SEN, literacy and numeracy strategies, and effective skills development.

e)  To take part in securing the support of schools, students and parents for successful learning and reintegration in school. To develop skills which are appropriate to provide education for children whose learning is disrupted.

f)  To work effectively as a member of the team of teaching and support staff in the Service.

g)  To contribute as appropriate to creating and maintaining an environment that facilitates high standards of teaching and learning.

3. To develop skills and expertise which facilitate progress towards student inclusion.

a)  To contribute to the development of a broad and balanced programme in PE, tailored to the needs of individual students, providing continuity with the individual student’s home school or future destination.

b)  To participate as appropriate in an induction and mentoring programme for all staff and a staff development programme.

c)  To develop and maintain effective partnerships and communication within the Service and with parents, schools, and relevant agencies.

4. To assist the SLT and Team Leaders to manage resources efficiently and effectively to meet the objectives of the Service plan.

a)  To assist the SLT and Team Leaders in the induction of any new staff.

b)  To contribute to the implementation of the admissions and reintegration procedures of the Service.

c)  To participate in any deployment of staff in different settings according to the needs of the Service.

d)  To assist the SLT and Team Leaders in advising the purchase of relevant equipment and materials to ensure effective delivery of the curriculum.

e)  To contribute to the development of a curriculum area(s) within the Service.

f)  To follow Health & Safety procedures at all times.

g)  To contribute to cross-Service development as required

5. To provide information as required by the SLT and Team Leaders To contribute to the collection and provision of such information on the attendance, performance and outcomes of all pupils, as may be required by schools, other authorities, other agencies, the Head of Service, and the Executive Director.
