Didactic kits for gear unit technology

Portable skills

Bruchsal, Hannover Messe 2017: SEW-EURODRIVE is helping to train electrical drive engineering specialists using a modular didactics concept with industrial drive models. Future metal, mechatronics and industrial mechanics specialists, for example, can use a modular demo gear unit kit to learn how to perform assembly, disassembly and service operations correctly. The kit also includes technical drawings explaining how a gear train works.

The didactic kits from SEW-EURODRIVE for helical, helical-bevel and helical-worm gear units offer the opportunity to gain a practical, hands-on understanding of drive engineering – quite literally. The gear units are assembled and disassembled using standard industrial tools. Mechanical components such as gear wheels, pinion shafts and tapered roller bearings benefit from permanent corrosion protection thanks to a high-quality coating. Some components are made from stainless steel.

As a means of torque and speed transmission, gear units have been an essential component of mechatronic drive units for decades. Specialists in this field therefore require extensive knowledge of the structure and configuration of the various components of a gear unit – ranging from project planning all the way through to implementation and maintenance.

The R57FAD2 is a mechanical gear unit that can have two or three helical gear stages. The production-oriented design of this didactic product enables practical assembly and disassembly of the entire gear unit, including setting and adjusting the helical gearing. The K47AD2 is another mechanical gear unit with one bevel gear stage and two helical gear stages, also with a production-oriented design. In addition to assembly and disassembly of the entire gear unit, it is also possible to adjust the bevel gearing / the corresponding tapered roller bearings. The third gear unit in this series, the SF47AD2, is also a mechanical gear unit and has two gear stages. Once again, it benefits from a production-oriented design and options include assembly, disassembly, and setting the gear backlash and bearing clearance of the worm gear and worm. Following successful assembly, these three gear units can be operated using a handwheel, that is to say without mounting an electric motor.

The components are arranged clearly in sturdy plastic cases. The T-Loq case system is shockproof, structurally stable and protected against dust and splashes for safe, time-saving transportation. The clear arrangement of all components and tools in the cases ensures short preparation and follow-up times.

The gear unit models were developed exclusively for didactic use and are therefore unsuitable for actual applications.
