CELC Curriculum and Assessment Summary

Curriculum

Pupils continue to follow the requirements of the National Curriculum, whilst embarking on public examination courses leading to GCSE and other qualifications.

Each area of the curriculum is allotted sufficient time to make its specific contribution, but not so much that it squeezes out other essential areas.

Provision is made within the school for all pupils with special needs and those for whom English is an additional language.

Each group will consist of no more than ten students, with at least one teacher and one member of support staff in each classroom.

The student-focused provision, along with the progressive introduction of setting and differentiation, stretches the brightest students and enables them to take a GCSE quota equivalent to a mainstream school.

All students participate in PSHE.

Assessment

Formal assessments of learning are conducted according to our Assessment, Recording and Reporting schedule and targets are shared with students and their parents regularly. Assessments of students’ learning are also made more informally and frequently.

Baseline testing takes place for every student who enters the CELC. This data, alongside the KS2 data, informs each student’s final predicted and aspirational grade.

Formal Assessments take place on (at least) a termly basis, using key stage appropriate GCSE questions to ascertain individual student ‘working at’ grades.
