REPORT ON TRAINING RACE 18.
Once again it was time for the next basketing list to appear on the SCMDPR web site for the TRAINING RACE 18 and this duly appeared on Tuesday 18th January, this was the penultimate race before the Final Race and a total of 2,607 pigeons were listed and this included 2,227 International and 380 South African pigeons. The International entry included 248 from the UNITED KINGDOM and 39 from IRELAND. Liberation took place from a distance of 81km (50 miles) back to Sun City on Wednesday 19th January at 07.15, overcast, cool and humid conditions with a light head wind and a temperature of 22C (72F) and a good steady race was anticipated by the Loft Managers and Zandy Meyer (Race Director). It was great to see an Australian film crew present to film this Training Race, along with numerous international visitors that also arrived to watch the last training race of the 2010/11 race series.
CONGRATULATIONS on winning 1st OPEN went to FENLAND LOFTS from UNITED KINGDOM with pigeon named FENLANDS STACEY which was officially clocked at 08-11-47.15 to record 1544ypm (52mph). Performances so far in the last 21 races were as follows:- 2292nd, 1021st, 32nd, 307th, 3377th, 886th, 290th, 820th, 31st, 1065th, 353rd, 310th, 1676th, 142nd, 806th, 940th, 125th, 1327th, 6th, 182nd and now 1st in the last 21 races which count in the Sun City overall averages. Then 2nd Open went to Herbert u Thomas Reichstein from Germany, 3rd Open to Horst Zikeli from Germany, 4th Open to Hans-Werner Schumacher from Germany, 5th Open to Koopman Racing Team from Netherlands, 6th Open to Henry Boeckmann from Germany, 7th Open to Wilhelm Stoll from Germany, 8th Open a second pigeon for Koopman Racing Team from Netherlands, 9th Open to McLaughlin Lofts from United States Of America, 10th Open to Paul Smith Syndicate from United Kingdom, 11th Open a third pigeon to Koopman Racing Team from Netherlands, 12th Open to Horst u Frank Sander from Germany, 13th Open to Team Sylt 2000 from Germany, 14th Open to Hans and Evert-Jan Eijerkamp from Netherlands, 15th Open to SG Hubert – Pitz from Germany, 16th Open to Herbert Bresser from Germany, 17th Open to Team Slagelse from Denmark, 18th Open to Mark Gilbert from United Kingdom, 19th Open to Lee Su-Byung from South Korea and then 20th Open to Hok Jos Vercammen from Belgium. It was great to see 4 different countries in the top 10 and separated by just 39.20 seconds and then 59.80 seconds between the top 20 in this result. As usual Michael and Pieter keep the computer up to date with arrivals as they are clocked and they actually updated the information during the day, so that fanciers from all over the world to see how the pigeons were arriving. As I was arriving in South Africa that day I only saw the result on arrival in Sun City and the result showed that a total of 2,592 pigeons were clocked by 16.15, which left 15 still to return to the lofts
THE OVERALL SUN CITY GRAND AVERAGES after 21 races now stands as follows:- 1st OPEN ITALIAN TEAM – CALTAVITURO fro ITALY with MAREMOLA 691 with a combined flying time of 38-26-28.98 and leading by a clear 94 minutes with 41st, 1063rd, 64th, 215th, 792nd, 79th, 170th, 31st, 1649th, 707th, 1522nd, 504th, 123rd, 37th, 19th, 106th, 64th, 61st, 23rd, 230th, 36th and 36th in its last 21 races. The top pigeon in this classification in the UNITED KINGDOM TEAM are JEAN and CHRISTOF TEAM with pigeon named SUNRISE bred by DEGUARA & SZKOLNY from MITCHAM, total flying time is 40-41-56.18 and this pigeon has won 991st, 2908th, 1308th, 611th, 1816th, 221st, 344th, 489th, 2846th, 367th, 373rd, 743rd, 757th, 171st, 1142nd, 46th, 2180th, 1665th, 678th, 1170th and 1090th in the 21 races that count. The top pigeon in this classification in the IRISH TEAM are PHILIP + MARK SMITH with IRISH SPARKY with a flying time of 41-19-36.14 and this pigeon has won 1492nd, 272nd, 2764th, 1264th, 675th, 1440th, 1275th, 1013th, 307th, 617th, 370th, 637th, 1693rd, 898th, 490th, 315th, 531st, 455th, 1995th, 753rd and now 1687th in the 21 races that count.

CONGRATULATIONS in TRAINING RACE 18 for winning 1st IRELAND, 21st OPEN went to LUCKY GREEN with pigeon named MADDIE 88 which was clocked at 08-12-48.95, this pigeon had won 271st, 1979th, 0000th, 2699th, 369th, 153rd, 123rd, 65th, 965th, 641st, 279th, 2681st, 2667th, 1881st, 1841st, 1068th, 159th, 256th, 468th, 1222nd and now 21st in the last 21 races, then 2nd Ireland, 37th Open to Karl Donnelly, 3rd Ireland, 183rd Open to RS Homan, 4th, 6th & 7th Ireland, 239th, 342nd & 460th Open for Cannon Lillis Lofts with 3 pigeons bred by Jos Reilly and 5th Ireland, 317th Open to The Beaumont Birds. AN EXCELLENT RESULT FOR THE IRISH TEAM.
*****THE REMAINING RACE PROGRAMME***** Just the “THE FINAL RACE will take place from 560km (approx. 348 miles) on Saturday 22nd January. Of course the weather conditions will have to be right for all these races to take place, if not they will not be basketed and then they will be basketed and liberated on another day when the weather forecast is better and the Race Director’s decision will be final. The object of this great race from day one has to get as many pigeons as possible to “THE FINAL RACE” on Saturday 22nd January and give all the fanciers/competitors and entrants a fair chance. Only races over 50km (31 miles) will count towards THE SUN CITY OVERALL ACE PIGEON AVERAGES, which has three cash prizes of US$10,000 (£6,666), US$5,000 (£3,333) and US$2,500 (£1,666) for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in this category.
