Smile Gallery is a commercial exhibition space located at 105 S. 22nd Street (between Sansom and Chestnut) in Philadelphia, on the 2nd floor above Smile Café. It is owned and operated by artist Ken Tutjamnong and his wife Nan, along with silent partners Matt and Brenda Lyons. Smile offers monthly exhibitions of contemporary artists, with opening receptions on the 2nd Friday of each month.

International Opera Theater is a project, headquartered in Philadelphia, that presents world premiere Italian operatic adaptations of Shakespeare texts every summer in Citta' della Pieve, on the border of Umbria and Tuscany in Italy. Its mission is to encourage self-discovery and to open avenues of communication between diverse populations, through the creation of new theatrical works and the revitalization of old, especially operas.

Da Vinci Art Alliance is a non-profit artists’ organization located in South Philadelphia. The organization was founded in 1931 to serve the needs of professional artists and artisans in the Delaware Valley. Da Vinci currently has over 150 members and is supported through membership dues, gallery rentals, sales commissions, grants, and donations. It holds exhibitions of members’ and non-members’ artwork as well as special events, workshops, performances, poetry readings, and lectures, and publishes a quarterly newsletter for its members.

Rules for Entry:

The exhibition is open to all current Da Vinci members; work may be in any medium, but must be directly related to the theme of Boccaccio’s Decameron. Make check payable to Da Vinci Art Alliance; no cash please. Participating artists are encouraged to attend a symposium with IOT Director Karen Saillant and Da Vinci President Debra Miller on Sunday, September 26, 3-5 pm, at Da Vinci, for introduction to themes, and visuals of the production.

Delivery of Artwork:

All accepted art will be due for delivery to Smile Gallery on Wednesday, November 10, 4-7 pm. All work must be prepared for display with hooks and hanging wire; improperly prepared work will not be exhibited. Staff from Da Vinci Art Alliance will install the exhibition beginning at noon on Thursday, November 11, and may ask artists for assistance if artwork requires special attention. Pick-up of unsold work will be on Tuesday, December 7, 5-9 pm at Smile, or by prior arrangement with David Foss. Work that is not picked up will be assessed a $5/day storage fee.
