The Tasmanian Women’s Council is made up of 12 voluntary members.
The Minister for Women appointsmembers to champion the rights and interests of women in Government decision making.
The Council advises the Tasmanian Government on issues of importance to women and contributes to the development of strategies that address inequality and increase the participation of women in all aspects of society.
The Council values social, economic, demographic and regional diversity amongst its members.
Background
The Council is currently seeking new members.
Members are appointed for one, two or three years.
The Council meets at least four times per year and members also represent the Council on working groups andat community events and forums.
The Department of Premier and Cabinet’s Communities, Sport and Recreation provides support to the Council.

Expressions of Interest close on 13January 2017.
Application process
You will need to provide:
- A letter expressing your interest in joining the Council;
- Responses to the attached Selection Criteria, including your contact details and the contact details for two referees; and
- A resumeoutlining your relevant skills/experience, membership of related organisations (professional, voluntary or community), and current/previous appointments to Boards or Committees.
You may also be invited to attend a short meeting to talk about your application.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Please provide a statement outlining your experience against each of the following selection criteria:
(i) Membership of key women’s organisations or ongoing contact with formal or informal networks.
(ii)Capacity to make worthwhile contributions in an issue area of relevance to women in Tasmania such aseconomic security and financial independence, education and training, health and wellbeing, housing, leadership and community engagement, safety and justice and other issues of concern to women.
(iii)Capacity to make worthwhile contributions in relation to the participation of groups of women in Tasmania who have particular needs. For example, Aboriginal women; women from migrant and multicultural communities; women with a disability; women from regional communities; young women; or women from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex (LGBTI) community.
