Mrs. Holt’s Class News

April 11, 2014

Dear Third-Grade Families,

Tomorrow is the powwow experience! Please meet in front of the south entrance of the Brick Breeden Field House at 11:45am Students can be picked up at 2:00pm at the same entrance. I look forward to seeing everyone there.

Tonight is the Talent Show and Art Auction. The third graders have been working incredibly hard on their projects. They cannot wait to show off all their hard work. Please come out and support the GGS art program.

Next Tuesday, April 15, the third-grade class has their second swim lesson in the afternoon. Please remember to pack your child’s towel and swimsuit. A water bottle is also a great idea.

Save the Date: The third grade class will be volunteering at the Gallatin Gateway Fireman’s Pancake Breakfast this year for our annual community service project. The Breakfast will be on May 17 from about 7am to 12pm. I will be sending more information out as we get closer to the date.

Math- The third grade class began their exploration of customary measurement. The class reviewed the various tools we use to measure length, width, and capacity. Students then practiced using these various tools to measure items in the classroom. On Friday, the class estimated the length and width of our classroom using cutouts of their bodies. We discussed if using our bodies as a measurement tool is the best way to find a measurement. The class then used a ruler to figure out how tall they were in inches. We combined all of our new found information and created a graph and discussed who is the tallest person in the class and who is the shortest.

Word of the Week: Resident

Here is what Lauren learned about the word resident:

“Resident is a noun and it has three syllables. A synonym for resident is citizen and an antonym for resident is alien. Its first known use was in 1350.”

Thank you for all your support,

Mrs. Georgia Holt
