Principal’s Message

The excitement in learning continues at Parkway! Our students and staff are busy with engaging classroom and school events! Yes, it is busy, but exciting in our school!

Excellent and exciting learning opportunities at Parkway

Our staff and students continue with our ECO-school focus at Parkway. We hosted 2 assemblies with a focus on water, and the importance of using ‘reusable water bottles’. During April we focused on the value of ‘inclusiveness’, this included observance of ‘Day of Pink’ activities. Our Kindergarten and Primary students participated in a special assembly by the “Breadbox Theatre’. Our Education Weeks activities have been very successful. On April 21st, we hosted our annual Kindergarten concert. Our students presented dance, songs, and music in delightful performances to our appreciative audience of parents and students. On April 22nd our students participated in an ‘Earth Day’ school and community clean-up. On Saturday April 23rd together with parent volunteers, students and staff we came together and worked in our Parkway Teaching Gardens Spring clean-up. Many thanks to our community and staff for your support with this school initiative! At our April Parkway Pride assembly we looked at the value of ‘inclusiveness’ and ‘super heroes’. Students got an opportunity to learn about the courageous Rick Hansen. Through these opportunities we continue to share the excitement of learning at Parkway with all staff, students and parents!

As we move along, our Grade 3 students continue to work hard as they prepare for the EQAO assessment. The EQAO will be held from May 25th to June 3rd.

On-going Professional Development for teachers

Our teachers also continue with our professional learning activities. Our teachers continue to work on ways to improve on instruction and learning in mathematics. They have been guiding their students using 30-day challenges. On April 11th teachers focused on Health and Safety practices and the use of inquiry and technology in learning and mathematics. Our Teachers have a Professional Activity Day on May 13th (This is not a school day for our students).

Safety practices at our school

Our staff and students continue to work every day on safe and responsible practices at Parkway. In May we will focus on responsibility. We will continue to do activities to encourage responsible choices and actions with our staff and students. We always encourage parents to continue to work with your child/children and with teachers to ensure a safe school for our students. A helpful practice is to talk regularly with your child and to guide him/her to make safe and responsible choices.

Reminder: Our School Council will host our Spring Fair on June 9th, 2016 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Yes, longest running school Spring Fair in Brampton!

Please note that this final Term is a very important time of the year at our school. Many important choices and decisions will be made about your child's learning at school. Please work closely with your child and the teachers, as each of us do our part to create good learning opportunities for our students.

When we work together, we make good things happen for our children and our school!

EQAO TESTING

This month our Grade 3 students will prepare themselves for the Provincially mandated EQAO (Education Quality and Accountability Office) assessments in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.

These EQAO assessments for the Grade 3 students will be administered throughout the week of May 25 to June 3.

Although regular attendance at school is always important, regular attendance is critical during the testing week. We also ask that you avoid scheduling doctor/dentist appointments for all Grade 3 during this time.

Grade 3 students will receive a letter with more specific information on the assessment week.

2.  Colton– talking about Healthy Eating

Gregg Le Rock French Concert
The Grade 5 students had a great view of French singer/songwriter Gregg LeRock atthe Rose Theatreon April 20th. It was so much fun because everyone sang along and danced. A few Parkway students even got to dance on the stage! The songs were practised in French class with Mme Lanktree.

MUSIC MONDAY

Parkway students celebrated Music Monday on May 2 by singing the theme song “We Are One” during the morning announcements. The Junior students gathered in the gym at 12:00 to watch the live-stream concert from Toronto City Hall and to join with students across Canada in singing the theme song together. Students also made reflective comments on three banners that are posted around the school. They are titled “Music is…”, “Music is Important because….” and “Music Makes Me Feel…..”.

Junior Musical

The Junior students will be presenting the musical “Joust” (A Mighty Medieval Musical!) on Thursday evening, June 2 beginning at 7:00 p.m. All parents and grand-parents are welcome to attend the show in the gym. Students are busy practising the songs and will bring home further information about costumes.
