Attention Glenridge Parents!

Gear up your children for the 2013 Read-a-Thon and the amazing opportunities reading has to offer! The Read-a-Thon has been restructured this year to reward daily participation in addition to most minutes read. We would like to encourage 100% student participation at or above minimum minutes regardless of grade level or reading ability. Of course, more minutes read beyond the minimum goal is encouraged as this is an important fundraiser for our school!

The theme this year is “Read with Nobility” and giving back to our community. In addition to raising money for new playground equipment, books will be donated to the Glenridge library and a community library in need.

Our readers will have a variety of ways to participate and experience success from their efforts:

Funds raised from pledge sponsors (based on minutes read) will go toward buying new books for the library, donating books to a community library in need, and new playground equipment.

All participants will receive a certificate.

2 winners in every class! Students who meet the daily minimumreadingrequirement during the Read-a-Thon will be entered into a raffle to win a fabulous gift basket of books (winners will get to select books).

Winners will have a gift book given to the library with child’s name in it and a book will donated to a community library.

The student who reads the most minutes per grade will be invited to a special lunch with a community leader.

Each Glenridge class with 100% participation will receive an extra recess and a pizza party.

Teachers of classes with 100% participation will receive gift books for their classroom.

Logged minutes must take place outside of the school-day; reading for homework also counts. Being read to by others also counts. (10 minutes/day for K-2 and 20 minutes/day 3-5)

Parents must verify and sign reading logs

Important Dates:

October 30: Read-a-Thon pledge sheets and logs go home with students.

Start securing pledges (family, friends, and neighbors)!

November 1 - 21: Reading minutes are logged......

READ, READ, READ!

Encourage your child to read daily in order to meet the time requirements for the drawing!

November 22-December 4: Reading logs and pledge funds are to be turned into classroom teacher.

Please send funds and logs together in a sealed baggy or sealed envelope.

Make sure your child’s name is on the log sheet and pledge sheet.

December 20: All winners will be announced at the Glenridge Holiday Sing-A-Long.

Our children will have several opportunities to imagine, create and become a leader...... and READING can take them there!

Thank you for your support of the 2013 Read-a-Thon!
