KEY PURPOSE

To provide support for the Ranger Service to provide an inspiring front line service and deliver a high quality visitor experience to visitors and residents of the National Park.

To help safeguard the protected status of the Park’s landscape, biodiversity, built facilities, heritage areas and sites in line with corporate objectives.

To support delivery of the National Park Partnership Plan, Corporate Plan, Ranger Service Operational Plan and other corporate initiatives.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

·  Be an effective and efficient point of contact and represent the National Park Authority to visitors and local communities.

·  Assist in the development and support of initiatives which promote an understanding of the National Park and the role of the ranger service and deliver objectives from individual work plans.

·  Complete all necessary processes to ensure that the National Park Ranger Service is accountable for its time and is recording delivery effectively, e.g. time recording, patrol recording. Provide data to contribute to reports on service delivery as required.

·  Comply with NPA Health and Safety Policy, in particular risk assessments and lone working procedures.

·  Comply with procedures for the use of NPA resources, including IT, tools & equipment and vehicles.

·  Support the delivery of sustainable management and maintenance of the National Park’s built and countryside infrastructure.

·  Assist in the delivery of ranger service objectives from the National Park Partnership Plan, Corporate Plan and Ranger Service Operational Plan, access and recreation, maintenance of built and countryside sites, visitor management, volunteering, biodiversity, culture and community.

·  Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade as required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Relevant Experience / ·  Demonstrable experience or knowledge of a range of visitor management, land management or natural heritage issues.
·  Experience of working with the public in a customer focussed role.
For Maintenance role only the following experience is essential:
·  Experience of practical countryside management. / ·  Experience of working with public agencies, communities, NGOs and land managers.
·  Work in a visitor centre & office environments.

·  Numerate.

Any Additional Job Related Requirements / ·  Scottish standard grade qualification (or equivalent) in maths and English or relevant experience.
·  Current UK Driving Licence.
·  Flexible approach to work and ability to work weekends and evenings.
·  Physically fit and able/willing to work outside in all weather conditions
For Maintenance role only the following qualification is essential:
Lantra (or equivalent) qualification in the use of strimmers/brushcutters / ·  Recognised qualification in related subject e.g. land management/ environmental management/ agriculture/ forestry
·  Current first aid certificate
·  RYA boating qualification or relevant experience
