This week’s Black knight for 3/4 Grey goes to Ken Yohe. Ken, selected as one of our captains for the week due to hard work in practice, continued his work ethic during a hard fought contest against Tigard. As a Starting Tackle, Ken contributed to our 19 point showing by firing out hard on every play on offense and keeping his blocks until each whistle sounded. As a Defensive End, Ken allowed nobody to run through his gap of responsibility and had one of the few tackles for loss. The coaches are proud to call Ken Yohe our Black Knight for the 3rd game of the season.

Cameron Cedillo is 3/4 Black's Black Knight award winner this week against Wilsonville. Cameron is our starting tight end and outside linebacker, and his dedication to getting better every day is what has set him apart. During this week’s game, his focus, and willingness to get down field blocks was key for the offense against a very tough Wilsonville squad. On defense, Cameron recorded five tackles against a very fast Wildcat offense. He was a big reason why, for the second straight week, 3-4 Black was able to hold their opponent scoreless. Terrific effort Cameron, and congratulations! 3-4 Black Knights Coaching staff.

The 3/4 White Knights are proud to announce Braden Thorn as their recipient of the Black Knight Award. Braden has exemplified numerous characteristics of our notorious Black Knight with the most obvious ones being hardwork through his efforts to become a better all around player and leadership with the example that he has set by playing multiple positions that are not of his choice. From the beginning of camp I have preached about hardwork, effort, and leadership and Braden this week has surpassed my expectations of the White Knights. Congratulations Braden! Keep up the good work and always remember to do your best in all that you do.

3/4 Cardinal - ”Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear." Nicholas “The King of The Jungle” Severson was awarded the Black Knight honor last Saturday. Nicholas’s desire to succeed & his passion for the game make him a very important part of the team. Nicholas’s play at the Q position on defense was one of the main reasons Tigard was forced to play to the opposite side of the field. He commanded respect from his opponents because of his ability to bust through the line. He recorded 2 tackles & 1 assist as he put pressure on Tigard all day. He had a key tackle in the backfield that thwarted a Tigard scoring drive in the 3rd quarter. On offense, Nicholas does a fantastic job at Center. It takes a special mix of skills to get the ball in the QBs hands properly and react immediately to the attacking defense. But Nicholas is always up to the task and delivers a solid performance all the time. It is a true pleasure to have you on the team Nicholas. All the coaches marvel at your hard work on and off the field. We are looking forward to the rest of the season and know you will continue to improve with your dedication and perseverance.

Thanks to a game changing performance on Saturday and a great week of practice, the selection of this week’s BN award was easy. Jordan Troccoli was the ultimate playmaker on Saturday for 5/6 Black. As our TE Jordan has been pound for pound our best blocker so far this year. This was reinforced by his earning the “Strongman” title last week. Jordan is always one of the first kids back during conditioning drills, showing his hustle and effort. On Sat, Jordan not only opened up big holes for our backs, he single handedly changed the momentum of the game with a 55 yd KO return TD late in the second half. On D, Jordan plays “Stud” for the Knights, and clearly lived up to the moniker on Saturday as he was involved in 18 tackles. He gave LO fits with his aggressive blitzes. Jordan conditioned hard all week and it showed by his continued strong performance in the 4th qtr. He is a rare breed in the fact that he has the talent to be able to successfully play any position on either side of the ball, yet is happy to help his team at any position that benefits his team the most. What a great way reinforce the commitment and sacrifice it takes to be a Black Knight. Thanks for all of your effort and hard work all season long Jordan!

5/6 Sherwood White – The Black Knight, Jarrett “Godzilla” Joy, dominated this week on both sides of the ball……grabbing the distinctive honor. Jarrett is a Defensive Nightmare for the opposition; too big and strong to push out and too fast to run away from. On offense Jarrett anchors the line from his Left Tackle position. He owned his man, and few others, creating clearings for his backs to run through. Jarrett is the team leader in practice as well, teaching and helping younger players in their position and technique. It is a real pleasure coaching Jarrett! Sherwood 5/6 White Coaching Staff

5/6 Sherwood Cardinal, This week’s Black Knight, Dallas O’Bryan, exemplifies the Vince Lombardi quote “The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will.” in his determination to leave everything on the field. Dallas’s energy and passion for the game motivates the entire team and makes him a great leader. Dallas created some huge running lanes for the running backs all season. On defense, Dallas ran the nose guard position of the defense to perfection sacking the quarterback 3 times for several times, for a loss. He has an amazing ability to close in and tackle opposing ball carriers. In the game against Westview, Dallas led the defense with 17 tackles and 3 sacks, as the team shut down their opponent, allowing minimal number of first downs the entire game. Dallas also shut down Westview’s leading tackler number”63” the entire game. Dallas exemplifies bring full intensity to the defense, and most important, and a great teammate. It’s been a joy coaching you, so congratulations Dallas! Thanks for giving us everything you have. Sherwood 5/6 Cardinal Coaching Staff

This week's Black Knight award for Grey 5/6 goes to Josh Spurgeon. Our Knights traveled to St. Helens for hard fought victory with Josh being a huge force on both sides of the ball. Josh is not the most vocal or outspoken person on the field, but don't let that fool you. His play on the field speaks louder than words and this week was no different. Josh is our starting Right Guard and his ability to pull and hold his block on our very first offensive play of the game made way for a HUGE hole for our full back to burst through and score! On defense Josh plays Inside Linebacker and had a great game with (2) solo tackles and (11) total tackles. Josh's size and ability to see over the offense to get a read on the ball is a great asset along with his speed to the get to ball carrier is awesome. Josh's hard work this past week during practice paid off with a great game. Congratulations Josh from the entire coaching staff of Sherwood 5/6 Grey.

JV Black - For week three our Black knight is Zac Rome. Zac plays Offensive and Defensive tackle, and had an outstanding week of practice and a great game agianst Newberg this past week. Zac is a very good leader on the field who always brings 100% effort to practice and games. Zac is an intelligent athlete who knows his plays and also helps the less experience linemen around him, and has good football savy which is hard to teach. Zac has good technique and alot of power to make it very difficult for defensive linemen. Zac's work ethic and love of the game makes it easy to coach him. Zac is a good player to coach and a good teammate and a great person. Great job Zac, keep up the great work. JV Black coaches

Brandon Gatlin takes the honor this week as the Black Night of JV Cardinal, and a well deserved honor it is. This is Brandon’s first year playing and he is a natural, already making a big impact for his team. His willingness to listen to his coaches and use what he learns on game day is helping his team to succeed every week. In Saturdays game against Newberg Brandon made several key blocks springing our running backs for huge gains and his pass blocking was so invincible our quarterback could have stopped to tie his shoes before passing. Brandon’s ability to come through this week contributed to a 35 to 6 Sherwood Victory. Good job Brandon and all of the JV Cardinal team!

The Sherwood Varsity Black coaches recognize Steven Powers as their Black Knight for week 3. Steven has been a stalwart center with no fumbled snaps this year and nearly flawless blocking execution. His aggressiveness on the defensive side of the line has stepped up significantly, and he demonstrated his versatility on Saturday by playing an equal number of snaps on the defensive line and as an inside linebacker. Steven is a model player - coachable, a great teammate, and always striving to better himself and his team.

Varsity Cardinal - Michael Stocker had an excellent game. After a hard week of practice and never giving up and going to the whistle it all paid off during the game versus OregonCity. Michael did great on offense maintaining all of his blocks and blocking to the whistle. On defense Michael did exactly what he was coached to do, fill the gap, sit on the heal line and pursuit the ball to get a tackle. Michael achieved one of his goals by working hard to get the black knight and after all the hard work he deserved the black knight! Not only is Michael Stocker great on the football field he is tremendous in academics. Michael never gives up and will go the length to achieve his goals. Michael is dedicated on the field and in the classroom. Good job Michael Stocker from the Varsity Cardinal Coaches.
