Cordless handset

Front

Place the handset in front of you with the buttons facing up or towards you. Below the top edge of the handset is a slight oval recess. In this recess are three cut-out lines around a white G printed on a black circle. This is the Earpiece and where the receiver is located.

Below the earpiece is the LCD. It is one and a half inches (3.8cm) wide and one inch (2.5cm) tall. Text and symbols are displayed on the LCD in dark blue.

Directly below the LCD are two rectangular buttons. The button on the left is the left soft button and the button on the right is the right soft button.

Centrally below the left and right soft buttons is a four-way navigation button. This button is circular and is white with black markings.

The four navigation options are:

Up: UP/CID (Caller ID) button

Down: DOWN/Phonebook button

Left: LEFT/INT (intercom) button

Right: RIGHT/Redial button

Below the four-way Navigation button are two square buttons. The button on the left is the Dial/Speaker button and the button on the right is the End/Power button.

Below the function buttons are four rows of three square buttons. These twelve buttons are black with large white numbers or symbols and make up the numeric keypad. The first row of three buttons from left to right is 1, 2 and 3. The second row is 4, 5 (has a small tactile dot) and 6 and the third row is 7, 8 and 9.

The fourth and last row is Star (*), 0 and Hash (#).

Note: When you are using the handset, the numeric keypad is backlit.

Back

Turn the handset over so that the LCD display and buttons are facing down and the pins on the bottom edge of the handset are still pointing towards you. In the middle of the back of the handset is a series of cut-out lines in a slight recess. This is where the Speaker is located.

Below the Speaker and forming the bottom half of the back of the handset is the Battery compartment cover.

Bottom edge

On the bottom edge of the handset are two small square recesses with silver coloured pins in them. These connect the handset to the base for charging.

LCD screen

The LCD screen is split into two distinct areas. The Icon area is the top half of the screen and displays the various system icons which will help you to use the telephone.

·  A series of arrows pointing to the right; Signal strength

·  A black handset symbol with three curved lines to the right hand side; the telephone has an open connection to the telephone network (off the hook)

·  A speaker symbol with three curved lines to the right hand side; the Handsfree function is active.

·  A black arrow pointing at a right angle down and to the left; missed call(s)

·  A key; Keylock is active

·  A battery; Battery status (this is always displayed when your phone is switched on and shows the level of the battery charge. A full black battery indicates the phone is fully charged)

·  An alarm clock; the alarm has been set to ring at a specified time

The Main area is across the centre of the screen and displays various bits of information that could be useful to you.

·  Telephone number being dialled

·  Caller ID information

·  Phonebook

·  Menu information

In standby mode the screen will display:

·  The handset name (if one has been created)

·  The handset number e.g. "HS n" (where n is 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5)

·  The date (the default is DD/MM)

·  The time (the default is 24-Hour)

·  The functions of the two soft buttons, MENU on the left and REDIAL on the right

Base

Top

Place the base on a table in front of you so that the open front of the moulded handset cradle that rises from the base is facing towards you.

The front of the handset cradle is a rectangular recess in the base. At the bottom of the recess are two raised contacts that connect with the pins on the bottom edge of the handset when the handset is placed in the cradle.

Bottom

Turn the base over. On the bottom of the base there are four round, non-slip feet, one in each corner. At a right angle to one of the feet is an oval shaped recess with a raised circular section. This is the Page button.

Edge

Three edges of the base are bare. Along the fourth edge of the base are two sockets. With that edge of the base facing you, on the left is a square socket and on the right is a small, round socket.

The square socket is the telephone line cord jack.

The small, round socket is the power socket which you connect the mains power adaptor to.

Getting started

Installation

Location

Ensure you situate the base close enough to the power socket so that the cable from the mains power adaptor will reach safely without stretching. Also, the mains power needs to be easily accessible in case you need to disconnect the power.

Make sure the base is at least one meter away from other electrical products e.g. TV, radio and monitors so as to avoid interference. Also, avoid direct heat and sunlight.

Caution: It is advised that you place the base on a table cloth or similar, as the rubber non-slip feet can mark some surfaces.

Handset range

The telephone has a range of 30-50 metres indoors and up to 300 metres outdoors. The range will be reduced when there is no clear line of sight between the base and handset.

Place the base as high as practically possible to ensure the best signal between the base and the handset. The signal strength icon at the top left of the LCD will blink and the signal strength bars will disappear to warn you if you have moved out of range of the base. You will need to move closer to the base or the telephone might be disconnected.

Batteries

Install two Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) AAA batteries (supplied) in the handset. Turn the handset over and remove the battery cover by pressing down on the top edge of the battery cover and sliding it towards the bottom edge of the handset. Once it is loose you can pull it away from the handset.

The flat end of the battery is the negative (-), this should be inserted so that it is touching the springs in the battery compartment.

Once you have installed the batteries replace the battery cover.

Battery use

The Battery status icon is continuously displayed at the top right corner of the LCD. The icon indicates the level of battery power. The 'fuller' the battery status icon is, the more fully charged the battery is and the longer it will last.

When the battery is too weak for the telephone to operate, the handset will automatically switch off. Place the handset on the base to charge the handset battery. Under the ideal conditions the handset battery should give about 6 hours talk time or 150 hours standby on a single charge.

Important: When battery power is very low, CHARGING… is displayed on the LCD. The handset must be recharged immediately. Replace the handset on the base.

Setting up

Connect the telephone line cord to the jack located on the edge of the base using the smaller modular plug. Connect the plug at the other end of the telephone line cord into the wall (PTT) socket.

Important! If you don't use the supplied telephone line cord, the telephone might not get a dial tone or connect to the telephone network.

Connect the mains power adaptor cable to the power socket on the base using the small, round plug. Connect the plug of the mains power adaptor to a mains socket and switch the power on.

Place the handset on the base, a short beep will be heard. The Battery status icon will be displayed on the LCD. Once the handset is fully charged, the icon will be displayed at the top right of the LCD.

The telephone has an automatic charging control to avoid excessive charging.

Before the handset can be used, it must be charged for a minimum of 15 hours on the MyDECT100+ base.

Switching the Handset ON/OFF

When the handset is placed on the charger/base while it is plugged into the mains it automatically switches on. Alternatively, press the End/Power button for approximately five seconds. When it is turned on, the handset will enter subscription mode, in which it is searching for a registered base.

"SEARCHING" will be displayed on the LCD while this is happening.

On successfully finding a base, the LCD will display the handset name (if created) number and the date and time, either set by yourself (see "Date & Time" section) or it will be set automatically when you receive a call provided that you subscribe to a Caller ID service. The telephone is now in standby mode and is ready for use.

To turn the handset off, press the End/Power button for about 5 seconds again. The LCD display will then switch off.

Note: The handset can only be switched off when not on the base. Switching the handset off and then placing it on the base will automatically turn the handset back on.
