Casting Down Our Crowns
Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne…
[Revelation 4:9-10]
Who is the Lord of your life? Do you think you are still in charge? Have you given that position to Yeshua? Will you hand your life to the One who paid His all for it? Have you cast down your crown?
The gift of life is so overwhelming we often forget that this is something we have received. We did not create our life. We are the result of a magnificent, miraculous union – first between God and man; then between two human beings. As we grow older, it’s easy to forget our origin.
Despite appearances, we are not our own. We belong to our Maker and Defender. God does not force us to accept Him. He waits to see if we will do so willingly. How will we respond to our lives and our circumstances? Will we use our challenges to justify our distance or acceptance from God? Will anger and frustration turn us away from the One who loves us the most or drive us to our knees? Will you cast down your crown?
Let’s take a moment to remember how we got here. Too easily we forget how our lives began. Our parents actually allowed a life to come forth that the Lord had already determined would live. Yes, there may have been a moment of conception, but our origin was in heaven – even before our ancestors walked the earth.
For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will Praise You, forI am fearfully and wonderfully made;Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. [Psalm 139:13-14]
To understand the gift of life, then to grasp the magnitude of salvation, leads us to submission, not mastery. Our breath and our being are gifts. The seed that was sown to bring us into both our first and second births came as the result of a man who cast down His crown to become the Firstfruits of creation. We cast down our crowns for He is worthy.
