A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Reverend Gene Huff.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Reverend Gene Huff and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Gene Huff was born on October 6, 1929, in Franklin, Ohio, the son of the late Adam and Maude Huff; and

WHEREAS, before Gene Huff was 20 years old, he had heard the call to preach, and began traveling Kentucky as an evangelist; and

WHEREAS, when 19 year old Gene Huff came to Newport, Kentucky, to preach his first revival in March of 1949, he met the church pianist, Ethel Dayberry, who would be his future bride. They married on July 4, 1952; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Gene Huff served as pastor of churches in London, Kentucky, South Lebanon, Ohio, and Cincinnati, Ohio; His longest tenure was his 29 years as pastor of London's First Pentecostal Church; and

WHEREAS, in the 1980s, Gene and Ethel Huff became involved in short-term missions, primarily in Europe, Asia, and Africa; and

WHEREAS, Gene Huff, throughout his life, was a dedicated public servant. Gene became involved in politics and was first elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1967. In 1971, Gene was elected to the Kentucky Senate, representing the 21st district, and he served there until 1994; and

WHEREAS, Gene Huff was a dedicated and active member of the Kentucky General Assembly, and he earned the admiration, respect, and trust of his fellow legislators; and

WHEREAS, On the day that Gene resigned from the Kentucky Senate in 1994, Gene and Ethel Huff raised a 50,000 watt radio tower for WYGE, a Christian radio station which Gene continued to operate until 2007; and

WHEREAS, Gene Huff was instrumental in rallying support for the brand-new, state-of-the-art St. Joseph London Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Gene Huff passed away on December 8, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospital in London; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Huff is survived by his wife, Ethel Dayberry Huff of London, his son Marty Huff of Cincinnati, Ohio, daughters Arlene Zawko of London, Anna Marie Brooks of Xenia, Ohio, Marsha Jarvis of London, and Jeanie Parker of London, and by 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The Senate does express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of our friend and former colleague, Reverend Gene Huff, and offers its condolences to his family and many friends across the Commonwealth.

âSection 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Reverend Gene Huff.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Gene Huff, 1623 Senator Lane, London, Kentucky 40741.
