[A] Project Proposal

1.A project proposal needs to be submitted by the group for approval. The group information and proposal should be prepared according to the template given below with the approval of the Supervisor to the office of the IESLCE.

2.In formulating the project proposal, the group may elaborate on some or all of the following headings.

  • Brief Introduction
  • Objectives
  • Methodology
  • Outcomes [including Technical Aspects, Economic Aspects, Environmental Aspects, Social Aspect, etc.]
  • Description of the work
  • Work Plan

3.When the project proposal is approved, the group shall submit the final report to the Office of the CE before 30 October 2015. Any comments made with the approval should be taken into account in carrying out the project.

4.If the proposal is rejected, a revised proposal or a new proposal shall be submitted through the Supervisor, subject to no change to the deadline of final submission.

Given below is a guideline that should be followed in writing the Project proposal. (This outline must not exceed 400 – 500 words.) 10 words per line, 25 lines per page (using double-spaced 12-point Courier).The following subtitles may be considered when preparing the proposal.

SECTION F (Additional Instructions)

[A] The Project

1.The project should be experimental or investigatory in nature with associated theoretical treatment.

2.The project should involve:

(i)Technical and scientific literature survey.

(ii)The use of relevant theories and engineering/scientific concepts to deal with the problems to be solved.

(iii)Design and development work.

(iv)Design and planning of research experiment or investigations.

(v)Design & construction of equipments, numerical models or software tools.

(vi)Analysis of results and interpretation

(vii)Report writing

3.It is essential in all cases for candidates to seek the guidance and supervision of a competent person, preferably a Chartered Engineer, or an University academic.

[B]The Project Report (Final)

4.The report must be in English language. It must be type written on A4 size white paper and securely bound. The number of pages of the report should be approximately 40 - 50 and the number of words should be approximately 10000 - 12000 excluding figures, tables and appendices etc. [10 words per line, 25 lines per page (using double-spaced 12-point Courier).Grammar, spellings, style of writing, presentation, etc. are important

  1. One spiral bound report must be submitted with the approval of the Supervisor.

6.All material on submission become and will remain the property of the IESLCE. No arrangements can be made for the return of any submitted material.

7.Demonstration of experimental and/or theoretical ability is expected for the conduct of the work and close attention will be paid to the presentation and the clarity and style of report.

8.The candidate must sign a declaration at the beginning of the report certifying that solely the members of the Group have undertaken the work as collaborative work. This declaration should be countersigned by the Supervisor.

9.If the Group uses the work of another author of the same subject such work shall be duly acknowledged and source of information received should be clearly indicated in the proper format. Plagiarism shall be completely avoided.

[D]Assessment of the Final Report

1The project report will be assessed by a panel of minimum three members with generally the examiner who approved the project proposal and the supervisor as the second member.

2The assessment panel reserves the right to require a candidate to attend an oral examination. Each student is given ten (10) minutes duration to make a presentation.

3The decision of the assessment panel will be final.No appeals will be entertained regarding the results of assessment.

4.Candidates are permitted to make a re-submission of the project report, but only within the time constraints.

5.Marks scored for the Final Report: X%

Marks for the Presentation: Y%

Final Mark: Z = 0.6X + 0.4Y
