Student progress and understanding of the material in this course will be assessed by using the following assessments:Unit/Chapter Quizzes,Tests and Exams, In-Class Presentations, Projects, and Activities.

Homework is not directly calculated into the student’s grade. An academic grade should reflect student achievement (what students know anddon’t know). I view homework as a means of practice, not achievement. Homework will be reviewed to ensure student practice and understanding of major concepts. All assignments that are given are deemed as a valuable learning tool and completion is highly recommended, so they will be checked for completeness often and scored (0-incomplete, 1-partially completed, 2-sufficiently complete) for a non-graded item in the gradebook. Both announced and unannounced Practice Quizzes will be given. The problems will be chosen from the previous night’s assignmentand must be completed within 10 minutes.

In the student’s online grade book, there will be categories for Achievement (90%) (which include the above mentioned assessments) andPractice Quizzes (10%)

HOMEWORK POLICY

* Assignments are written in the SmartNotebook file for the daily lesson, which is posted to the class website, as well as on the weekly calendar board in the back corner of the classroom.

* An assignment will be given almost every day, which is then reviewed the following day.

* One Konkle Koupon can be used to excuse one Practice Quiz.

* One Konkle Koupon can be used for one bonus point on a Chapter Test (maximum of two per test).

RETAKE POLICY

* Chapter quizzes cannot be retaken. However, a chapter quiz will be exempted if you perform higher on that chapter’s test (unless it adversely affects your class average)

* Chapter/Unit Tests can be retaken for grades less than 70%. You will be expected to complete review assignments as well as to do corrections on your test. Your retake test will replace your original test at a max of a C.

* Corrections can be done by any student on any Chapter/Unit Test for two bonus points. Corrections must be done outside of the class hour, but in my classroom.
