Job Title: Adoptions Engineer.

Reports to: Senior Engineer.

Job Description: To be responsible for the adoption of roads, sewers, pumping stations, and public open spaces within the North East Area.

Budgets:Work within budgets set by others and report any potential overspend.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Remedial Management and supervision of road & sewer’s, footpath construction and final surfacing works. Ensuring that the works are carried out within an agreed budget and timescale.
  1. To arrange for CCTV, As Constructed surveys; Street Lighting completion certificates and remedial works with Contractors and Consultants.
  1. The adoption of roads, sewers, pumping stations and open spaces covered under Section 38 and S278 of the Highways act 1980; and Section 102 and 104 of the Water Industry Act 1991.
  1. Liaison with Local Authority, Water Company and Environment Agency personnel in respect of site inspections, reporting etc.
  1. Work to an agreed programme of scheduled adoptions; such programme to be discussed and reviewed with the Senior Engineer on a fortnightly basis.
  1. Update the Companies Bonds Management Schedule on a regular basis; ensuring that a monthly report is available to the Technical Manager at the end of each month.
  1. Maintain development correspondence files.
  1. Have a sound knowledge and experience of civil engineering construction activities; ie. roads, sewers, pumping stations and section agreements
  1. Comply with responsibilities as laid down in the Group’s Health, Safety and Environment Policy.
  1. At all times comply with company policies, procedures and instructions.

Effective working relationships are an essential part of daily working life.

The focus in this role is both:-

Internal: Colleagues within Operating Company; and

External: Managers in both Local Authority, statutory bodies, appointed consultants and sub contractors.

Decision Making

  • Agree issue’s with external bodies and remedial works (within remit of cost and programme)
  • Instructing Consultants to vary or amend designs (within remit of cost and programme).
  • Instructing Contractors to carry out agreed remedial work (within remit of cost and programme).
