JOB TITLE Domestic Services Assistant

GRADE £12,600 per annum (40 hours per week, 41 weeks per year)

Role Specific Responsibilities:

• To provide a range of domestic services that includes kitchen assistant responsibilities and assisting with general housekeeping across the site.

• To assist in the kitchen to introduce students to a varied range of dishes using good quality produce.

• To have an awareness of the ‘National Nutritional Standards for School Lunches’ and guidelines for ‘Healthy Eating’ and ensure high standards of cleanliness throughout the whole environment.

• To work as part of a wider domestic team, preparing and serving food to the highest standard and to clean across the whole environment.

• To continually strive for the improvement of the quality of food and quality of service.

• To take an active role in the practical elements of the service and exhibit high standards of professionalism.

• To ensure compliance with the requirements of food hygiene regulations, Health & Safety, COSHH regulations and risk management practices.

Main Duties:

• To assist in the preparation of foods for breakfast, break and lunch service and any other catering service needed across the day.

• To assist in domestic duties across the site as directed by the Domestic Services manager.

• To promote within the department and the School, a professional atmosphere of friendliness, support and rigour, and an enthusiasm for improving standards of healthy eating and high standards of cleanliness.

• When the occasion arises, using the School’s Behaviour Policy, to respond appropriately and professionally to student behaviour, and to do so in a manner which is underpinned by care and developing understanding of the needs of the student.

• To be professional, friendly and respectful towards all colleagues, and to address any concerns through the proper channels.

• To be professional, friendly, fair and firm with students, demonstrating the sort of politeness and respectfulness that we wish them to emulate.

• To be friendly, helpful and welcoming to parents and others visiting or making contact with the School.

• To be a spokesperson, when occasion arises, for the School and its vision.

OPERATIONAL

• To assist in the preparation of meals to standard that is expected of a School.

• To ensure that all meals are served in an exemplary manner that sets examples for all students.

• To ensure that any special dietary requirements for School staff and Students are catered for.

• To engage in procedures and controls are in place for regular stock control checks.

• To assist in checking deliveries for both quantity and quality.

• To comply with requirements of food hygiene regulations, implementation of COSSH regulations and implementation of risk management practices.

• Ensure that you are familiar with the requirements of health and safety legislation and codes of practice that are relevant to your area of responsibility.

• Take an active role in promoting Health and Safety throughout the School.

• To ensure that the standards of Health & Safety and Hygiene comply with all regulations.

• To maintain stocks of cleaning materials.

• To actively contribute to creating a positive ambience across the school environment.

• To undertake cleaning duties across the site as directed by the Domestic services manager.

COMMUNICATION AND MARKETING

• When the need arises to attend parent/community events.

• In any communication that may occur, maintaining a manner that is friendly, helpful and professional.

• To be a spokesperson for the School and its Vision.

SUBJECT, KNOWLEDGE & UNDERSTANDING

• Have a thorough and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of legislation that impacts all elements of the domestic services across site.

• Be willing and able to continue to develop and use new skills to support your role and the School.

PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS & DEVELOPMENT

• Be a role model to students through personal presentation and professional conduct.

• Cover for absent colleagues as is reasonable, fair and equitable.

• Establish effective working relationships with all staff.

HEALTH & SAFETY

• Be aware of the responsibility for personal Health, Safety and Welfare and that of others who may be affected by your actions or inactions.

• Co-operate and follow company policy and procedure on all issues to do with Health, Safety & Welfare.

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

• In conjunction with the line manager, take responsibility for personal professional development, keeping up-to-date with research and developments as appropriate

• Undertake any necessary professional development as identified in the School Improvement Plan taking full advantage of any relevant training and development available.

Generic Requirement:

• It is a requirement of all posts within the School that Health and Safety requirements are upheld in the performance of duties.
