Propagation of the Faith Collection: There will be a collection for the Propagation of the Faith during both Masses this weekend 5th / 6th October 2013. Throughout the Church there are many different countries where the work of Catholics needs to be supported and where the local community cannot yet provide for the needs of the local Church. Ireland has always had a very significant role to play in promoting and supporting the spread of the Good News.

Day for Life: This Sunday 6th October 2013, is this year’s Day for Life. This is the day on which we pray, in particular, that all life will be respected from conception to natural death. The theme for this year is “Care for Life – It’s Worth it!” Copies of the “Day for Life” brochure containing the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Letter for this Day are available in both churches.

Our Lady of the Rosary: The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary falls on 7th October. The tradition of blessing roses on this day is an old one. Therefore, Fr. Pat will bless roses at the 7.30p.m. Mass in St. Brendan’s Church, Clogher, this Monday evening. Anyone who would like to have roses blessed should bring them along to this Mass. It is recorded in the Annals of the Rosary that many favours have been obtained, both spiritual and temporal, through the virtue of these blessed roses. Indeed, thousands of sick persons have been cured by using them devoutly.

Baptism: Last Saturday, 28th September 2013, in St. Brendan’s Church, Clogher, we welcomed Baby Rex Ger Burke, son of Bernard and Sharon Burke (née Healy), living in Ballybrannagh, Ballymacelligott, into our parish community. As we congratulate Sharon and Bernard, we ask the Lord to continue to bless them and Baby Rex and his older siblings, Max and Kate, in every possible way, both now and in the future.

Marriage : We congratulate Catherine Curtin of Carrignafeela, Rathanny, and James O’ Connor of Castlemaine who celebrated their marriage in St. Brendan’s Church, Clogher, last Saturday, 28th September 2013. We ask the Lord to continue to bless them in every possible way, both now and in the future, and to grant them, in particular, good health and a very, very happy marriage.

Diocese of Kerry Earth Week 2013: This takes place this year from 4th October until 13th October 2013. The theme is “Living Water”.

In celebrating Earth Week 2013 we invite you to reflect on the importance of Water. Access to water for life is a basic human need and a fundamental human right. Yet in our increasingly prosperous world, nearly a billion people are denied the right to clean water.“ “It is therefore necessary to cultivate a public conscience that considers food and access to water as universal rights of human beings, without distinction or discrimination”. (Caritas in Veritate. Benedict XVI)

Pope Francis recently spoke of the ‘culture of waste’ where we tolerate the waste of precious resources. He asked us “to reflect on this grave ethical problem in a spirit of solidarity grounded in our common responsibility for the earth and for all our brothers and sisters in the human family”. (Pope Francis)
