“Group Therapy with Hands-On Exploration and Tools”

WHO: / Maribeth Primm, MS, PLPC, ICCDP-D graduated with a Master's in counseling from Missouri State University in 2012. She has been employed at Preferred Family Healthcare (PFH) since 2013 as a therapist. Her primary role is working with Greene County Adult Drug Court. She has an interest in trauma work; specifically trauma and addiction,and has taught trauma group at PFH for the last 18 months.
Mark McDonald, MS, CRADC, Presently working as the Program Director for the ASCENT Recovery Residences. Southwest Missouri Representative for the Missouri Credentialing Board. Mark has been serving in the Counseling/Recovery field for more than 28 years involving program development, advocacy, recovery supports, program management, and involvement in Missouri and Oklahoma Treatment Courts.
Mary Turner, MSW, LCSW, Statewide Director of Preferred family Health. Mary is a Licensed Clinical Therapist whose recent focus has been on Co-occurring disorders, the impact of trauma on mental health, substance abuse and child maltreatment. She is currently an adjunct professor at MSU, a Certified Mediator, Family Group Conferencing Facilitator and has been a Forensic Interviewer.
Merna Leisure-Eppick, CRADC, Over the last twenty-four years, Merna Leisure-Eppick’s experience in the field of addiction and recovery includes: serving as alternative sentencing advocate in the Los Angeles court system, the executive director of a 30-bed men’s rehabilitation center, program director at a 15-bed women’s facility, and the owner of three large sober living homes in Los Angeles County, CA. She served on the Board and as the Executive Director for Sigma House, Inc. She has received numerous awards for her service to the field of recovery and has served on several boards related to this field. She is currently the chair of the Missouri Continuing Education Consortium.

MODULE ONE: Trauma Related Therapy by Maribeth Primm
§  Definition of trauma and its relation to addiction
§  The benefits of group treatment for trauma
§  How to facilitate a trauma group including special considerations
§  Small group examples of various trauma work exercises
MODULE TWO: Relapse Prevention by Mark McDonald
§  If our clients believe that we are taking away something without providing something of equal value-it is considered-LOSS
§  We may value things differently than our clients
§  Beliefs regarding entitlement
§  Develop a network of recovery
MODULE THREE: Codependency, Not Just a Women’s Issue by Merna Leisure-Eppick and Mary Turner
§  Identify co-dependency in the clients with whom they work
§  Assist clients to identify co-dependency, patterns of behavior and relationships including ignoring “red flags.”
§  How to help clients identify unhealthy boundaries and develop ways to strengthen boundaries
§  The impact of addiction on relationships and the connection with co-dependency
§  How to integrate co-dependency in a client’s treatment plan
§  How to deal with their own issues of co-dependency and flexible boundaries with the clients they see
Course meets the requirements for 6 hours of continuing education credits for as required by the National Association of Social Workers/Missouri Chapter.
