Dear Parents and Carers,

The Year 6 camp in 2012 will give the students an exciting, rewarding and interesting experience of Melbourne life with a huge focus on Leadership with one day being spent at the National Young Leaders Day at South Wharf Convention Centre. The camp will be basedat Hotel Discovery, Franklin Street, Melbourne ( ).

Camp Dates

We depart on Wednesday 14th March and return Friday 16th March. The group will be travelling with V-Line Train Services.

On Wednesday we will depart from South Geelong Station at 8:52am. We ask that parents transport their children to South Geelong Station, arrivingNO LATER than 8:30am, in time to have their names checked off by their teacher leader for the camp (students will be notified who this is closer to the date).

On Friday we will return to Marshall Station at 3:09pm and we ask that they be picked them up at this time, checking with their teacher leader again before taking them home.

Cost

Camp fees are charged to your school fee account, which will cover accommodation, train travel, food and a range of exciting activities.

Permission Form

Parents must give their consent before any child can participate in this school camp. Please ensure thatall forms provided are signed and sent back to school by Friday 24th February.

Supervision

Supervising adults on this camp will be Emma Rayson, Luke Hindson, Pauline Arnel,Rick Hynes, Ronald Dando and Leanne Mahon.

Requirements

A list of student requirements for the camp has been included with this letter to help you with organisational matters.

Medical Forms

Also attached to this letter are medical forms which must be filled out in detail and returned to the school with the permission form, the more detail the better. ALL medication needs to be in a sealed labelled bag with the following information: students name, medication, dosage and when to be administered. This needs to be given to your child’s teacher leader either prior to or on the morning of departure, we understand that children may be on medication between now and the camp so please update forms on the morning of departure. No child should be carrying their own medicine (asthma inhalers excluded).

Meals

On the first day, the children will need to provide their own snacks, lunch and drink. A small backpack to carry things would be practical.

On the final day of camp the students will be taken to the Queen Victorian Market where they will have an opportunity to buy their lunch and look around. To buy their lunch they will need to be provided with some spending money, please send along NO MORE than $20.

While on camp all other meals will be provided and children with special dietary needs can be catered for, so please indicate on the medical form any special needs your child may have.

Please complete and return medical and permission forms by Friday 24th February, 2012.

Yours sincerely,

5/6 Teachers

CAMP REQUIREMENTS

It has been made very clear by the staff at Hotel Discovery that bags should weigh NO MORE than 10kg. There will be times when students will have to transport their own luggage so easily transported bags are the best and of course the lighter in weight the better. If your child can’t carry or wheel their bag themselves then it is impractical.

Full school uniform, including shoes and socks (not P.E uniform) – to wear on National Young Leaders Day

At least 2 changes of clothes

Pyjamas/tracksuit

4 pairs of socks and underwear

1 pair of runners

1 pair of sturdy walking shoes

Water proof jacket or parka

Towel

Hat/Cap

Necessary toiletry items – NO hairdryers or aerosol cans

PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL ITEMS ARE VERY CLEARLY LABELLED!

Important

Mobile phones, ipodsor other electronic devices are not permitted on camp and will be confiscated and returned to parents after camp.

No food is to be brought into Hotel Discovery so please DO NOT send along lollies with your child.

Cameras are permitted but will be the student’s full responsibility.

If there are any questions or private concerns that you would like to discuss before camp regarding your child contact your class teacher:
