Dear parents.
You may well have heard from your children about Sir Linkalot's extremely successful visit to the school recently. He, very much, succeeded in his mission of getting the message out to all students (Reception to Year 6), teachers and parents that linking is an invaluable, yet underused, learning tool which students of all ages can utilise in their journey through education up to A-Levels and beyond as it can be applied to learn facts in everyday life. To see the children's reactions, especially those who could do with a boost, was a joy to behold.
Many of the parents who were able to attend purchased copies of the two books he has on the market. So, we would like to give those who couldn't make it the opportunity to buy them.
1.'Think of a link - How to remember absolutely everything' (£7). This fun, little book, published by Scholastic of Horrible Histories fame, has many tips and tricks (links) for how to learn any fact, covering spelling, Maths, History dates, World Capitals, Key science facts, French words and many more categories. It would sit nicely on the bedside cabinet for them to dip in to for 5 to 10 minutes before going in to the land of nod. Here is a BBC clip about the book.....BBC News South East
2.'Thinkalink - The revolutionary spelling technique that will ensure your child can spell every word' (£22). This is, to quote The British Dyslexia Association, groundbreaking. It contains links for over 1000 commonly misspelt, high frequency words fromEatup to the oh-so graphic, not to be mentioned,Diarrhoea! The first 20 pages include his hints and tips for how to master 'Linking' followed by lists of words. This is more of an exercise book that will sit on their desk at home for many years as it covers GCSE words likeRecommend, Environment, DefinitelyandAccommodate.
Please email Andy directly () if you would like a copy (one of each is £25) and he will give you his bank details. The little book will contain a personal dedication to your child(ren). So, do let him know who you would like it dedicated to, i.e one name, two names or the family name 'The Smith family'.The plan is for him to take the orders in the next couple of days so they will arrive at the school, signed, early next week for collection.
Just to remind you what it's all about, here is a clip of him in action, with 10 adorable Year 5 children who are struggling with their spelling....Sir Linkalot @ Cranleigh Prep
We think these books will be a very useful resource for your children now and in the future. You may even enjoy them, yourselves!
All the best.
