PE Waiver Guidelines

Students in grades 6-8 are required to participate in an average of at least 100 instructional minutes per week per year in physical education (PE) classes, unless such participation is waived. (RCW28A230.040) Snoqualmie Public Schools does not endorse PE waivers for middle school students.

Students in 6th and 7th grade will not be allowed to waive any PE instruction except for the following reason of physical disability or religious beliefs. The PE department focus will be highly intentional on meeting the state RCW’s, the (CBA’s) State Assessments for Health and Fitness during these years.

8th grade students will be allowed to waive one quarter of PE if they meet the following criteria.

  • Student has met proficiency (%75 or better) on the (CBA) State assessment for Fitness concepts
  • Student has met proficiency (%75 or better) on the (CBA) State assessment for Fitness plan for Pat
  • Student is in the Healthy Zone of the Fitness Gram Assessment in the following four areas; curl up, Push-ups, Pacer Run, and Sit and Reach/Flexibility
  • Student has taken one quarter of PE in 8th grade and passed with a B or higher
  • Student must provide evidence that he/she is involved in an competitive individual or team sport
  • Students in Choir and Band will not be allowed to waive PE. Their schedule will be one quarter of Health, PE, and PLTW. They will then have a choice between Art, TA or another PE class.

Individual or team sports: A waiver may be granted for students who are participating in community-based organized athletic teams. To receive a PE waiver for participationon a community-based athletic team the team or individual sport must meet the following criteria:

  1. The team MUST hold regular workouts or practices
  2. The team MUST participate in team competitions
  3. The team MUST meet for a least 60 documented hours for a student to receive a waiver
  4. Student participation MUST occur sometime during the school year, September-June 2014
  5. Individual activities that my qualify for a PE waiver include participation in Pacific Northwest Ballet, competitive ice skating, skiing, gymnastics or a select sport.

Students in grades 6-8 are required to participate in an average of at least 100 instructional minutes per week in PE classes (60 hours Per semester), unless such participation is waived.

Students in grade 8 may be excused from PE instruction for the following reasons:

  1. Physical Disability or
  2. Religious Belief or
  3. Directed Athletics ( fill out verification form )
