~~WORLD BOOK DAY~~

On Wednesday, 6th March, we were very fortunate to have a very special visitor to the school to help celebrate World Book Day. Rachel Lindsay, local author of several books, including ‘The Warrior Troll’ and ‘Pipes and Potions’ spent the day with children throughout the school. She led 2 assemblies, discussing her love of reading and writing, before introducing the inspiration behind the books – her fascinating collection of trolls. This was followed by Rachel leading 4 lessons (2 with Year 6 and 2 with Year 2), during which she taught children how to introduce and develop characters in stories. Some of these classes have followed up the work and are now writing about their very own trolls and how to care for them.

At the end of the day, many children bought signed copies of Rachel’s books and are hopefully enjoying reading about the many interesting adventures which the trolls experience.

~~E SAFETY~~

Yesterday Year 5 and 6 watched a drama production by Gripping Yarns, which told a story of a young girl and how she becomes friends with someone online. Throughout the children were asked whether what she was doing online was safe. Most children showed a good understanding of how to keep themselves safe online, but some didn’t!

At the end, Mr Cox asked them all to speak to their parents about online safety and to find out what you do to keep yourself safe when online and what the CEOP button on websites looks like and is for.

Internet safety is an important part of the curriculum now, and is addressed right from Reception class with our 4 year olds, and is an area we try to keep pace with. Please encourage your children to talk to you about what they are doing online or when using their games, what is appropriate and about keeping safe.

~~CYCLING TO SCHOOL~~

During the summer term pupils begin to travel to school on their bikes. Please be extra vigilant when opening your car doors as a cyclist may well be approaching.

~~CHANGE TO SCHOOL FINISHING TIME~~

As a follow up to the letter that was sent to all parents regarding the consultation with parents about the proposal to change the end of the school day to 3:20pm for the Juniors, from the beginning of June, please may I remind you the Governors and I will be reviewing comments at the end of this term. If you would like to make a comment, positive or negative, please either write to the school or email via

~~ NETBALL TEAM~~

We entered 2 teams into an EIP netball league run by SandbachHigh School and SixthFormCollege. Both the Dingle teams were in the same group and ended up playing each other. Dingle A won 3 out of 4 matches, finished second in the group and will now take part in the finals night on Wednesday 20th March. Dingle B finished 3rd in the group, narrowly missing out on a place next week. All the girls (and the 2 boys) who have played have gained valuable match experience and hopefully Dingle A will bring home a trophy next week.

~~YEAR 5/6 FOOTBALL~~

After winning the Cheshire Schools’ Cup last month for the first time in the school’s history, the Year 5/6 Football Team advanced to the Northern Finals of the National Competition, which was played in Manchester on Saturday, 9th March. They were competing with 11 other CountyChampions from the North of England to see who would play in the National Finals next month. Unfortunately, Eric Green, who had been a key figure as goalkeeper in the Cheshire stage was unable to play due to sickness. This resulted in a reshuffle of the squad, with Oliver Beard deputising as goalkeeper and performing very well. The team played 6 games and were unlucky to only win 1 game, although out of the 4 they lost, 3 ended up in very closely fought 1-0 defeats.

Well done to all of the team who have played fantastically well all season to reach this stage of the competition (Thomas Williams (capt), Oliver Beard, Harrison Wright, Harrison Bebbington, Robson Woods, David Byford, Ben Jackson, Eric Green). For those that are interested, St. Bernadette’s from Middlesbrough and representing Teesside were the winners and will represent the North next month.

~~YEAR 5/6 HOCKEY~~

After a qualifying stage of the competition, The Dingle ‘A’ hockey team played in a further tournament to see who would represent the local area in the Cheshire Finals. The team played very well and needed to win their last game to reach the final. After leading for most of the game, a last minute equaliser denied them a final spot. However, they can be really pleased with a fantastic performance over both days.

Well done to all of the team: Robson Woods, Max Rayner, Anna Hanson Isasi, April Roome, Emilka Pawlowska and David Byford.

~~THE PTA-SPRING FAIR~~

Please come and join us at our main fundraiser The Dingle Spring Fair on Thursday 21st March 2013. Doors will open at 6.30pm. There are lots of coloured stalls, adult and children’s Tombola. We have the Market Stalls selling jewellery, sweets, bags and lots more. Can you help us and donate a bottle or gift for our tombola stall? If so please bring them to the school office at your earliest convenience.

~~ECO WARRIOR~~

Earlier this week the Eco Warriors performed an assembly to both KS1 & KS2 .The children, ably supported by Miss Phillips (a student) produced a PowerPoint presentation, sang and involved their audience in a game show all about saving energy.

~~ COMIC RELIEF 2013~~

The school council were busy selling the Red Noses all week. They sold 350 in total. The year 4 organised a “Red Nose Day Bake Off” and in the afternoon the cakes were sold to the pupils. Mrs Bradford’s and Miss Hadzik’s classes also organised a talent show. The whole day was a great success and we raised a total of £650.

Thank you for your support.

~~HOLIDAYS~~

Just a reminder that parents are requested to avoid booking holidays in term time. If you request absence for holiday the authority’s formula for calculating authorised/unauthorised holiday will be applied. This formula is based on prior attendance and proximity to exams. Please be aware that any continued unauthorised absence may result in a fixed penalty fine or prosecution.

~~MONEY~~

Please can we ask parents not to send money that is for the school office in your child’s purse or loose in your child’s bag. Money for trips and dinners should be in a clearly marked envelope with your child’s name, class and the purpose of the money. Your child should hand the envelope to their class teacher where possible, or failing that, hand it in to Mrs Charlton or Mrs Robinson in the school office.
