Doping Control Officer – Level 1

The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) is an independent, national, not-for-profit organization. We want to make sport better because we recognize that quality sport can make a great difference for individuals, communities and our country. We work collaboratively with the Canadian and international sport communities to activate a values-based and principle-driven sport system; protect the integrity of sport from the negative forces of doping and other unethical threats; and advocate for sport that is fair, safe and open to everyone. The CCES is seeking individuals to fill the employment opportunity of Doping Control Officer (DCO) – Level 1 on a part-time casual employment basis with availability to work weekday mornings. We are currently seeking individuals residing in or near the city of Kelowna, BC.

DCOs play a key role at the CCES in implementing the Canadian Anti-Doping Program (CADP). As a DCO, you will be responsible for conducting sample collection sessions with athletes. Sample collection sessions include the collection of urine and/or blood at both in-competition (events) and out-of-competition (training and home visits) testing sessions.

All DCOs will be trained by the CCES in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) International Standard for Testing and Investigations and receive assignments for testing athletes on a casual employment basis throughout the year.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Doping Control Officer - LEVEL 1

Ideal candidates will have completed post-secondary education and demonstrate the ability to adapt to change, be knowledgeable of the rules of the Canadian Anti-Doping Program, and work with initiative. Ideal candidates will possess strong communication skills and be able to work with and provide direction in a cooperative environment so that the goals of the CCES are achieved. Candidates are often from the fields of physiotherapy, athletic therapy, physical education, law enforcement, healthcare and medical services, and/or education.


Ideal candidates are able to:

·  follow directions and instructions, and maintain confidential information;

·  work in stressful situations and solve problems;

·  act in a respectful and professional manner;

·  effectively evaluate situations and exercise good judgment;

·  follow a defined set of protocols and procedures;

·  work in a high pressure, constantly changing environment;

·  work with athletes of all levels, including Olympic level & professional athletes;

·  maintain information in a discreet and confidential manner.

POSITION DETAILS

Purpose:

·  To collect and assist with urine and blood sample collection sessions for in-competition and out-of-competition testing missions.

·  To lead Level 1 doping control missions in accordance with the CADP as required.

·  To provide leadership, training and evaluation to chaperones as required.

Mandatory Requirements:

·  Have a computer with internet access and a cell phone;

·  Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle;

·  Be willing and able to travel;

·  Maintain certification through training mechanisms provided by the CCES;

·  Adhere to the rules of the CADP;

·  Successfully go through the steps of the CCES screening policy including a criminal records check;

·  Be willing to witness passing of a urine sample by athletes of the same gender as the DCO.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

Education: Post-secondary education or equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant position.

Language Skills: Excellent English verbal and written communication skills are required and similar

French language skills are preferred.

Leadership Skills: Professional conduct, sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, ability

to work with little or no notice, ability to give/receive feedback.

Project Skills: Organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy, ability to follow procedures, time management skills, ability to work in a team environment.

Computer Skills: Reasonable ability to use email, the Internet, MS Word and Excel.

·  Previous anti-doping experience;

Compensation: Hourly rate plus expenses
