1 Note - Digital Channels are/will be broadcast on some of the old analog channels. This is relevant because any particular digital channel, from any direction, could be on any of the old analog channels, but may appear on your local set or ATSC/QAM tuner by the same designator such as 5.1 etc.
This would add the same digital channel number, such as “5.1” for each of the old analog channels the ATSC/QAM tuner finds a digital signal for 5.1 on. That would result in the possibility of multiple entries for 5.1, each from a separate source or translator broadcasting on a different RF analog channel.
Your local modern ATSC/QAM Tuner TV or DTV converter may then display two or more entries for some of digital channels, such as multiple 5.1 channels, but again, each coming from a separate RF frequency. Not each digital entry will have a signal, or will have the same quality signal as the antenna direction is changed between different transmitter/repeater sites as shown above.
Certain newer ATSC/QAM Tuners in flat panel sets, as well as some Digital Converter Boxes, such as The Dish Network TR-40 will indicate the Digital Channel number as well as the old analog channel the digital signal is currently being received on.
3 Note - No Signal
2 Note - Apparent Signal Quality may be poor from Master Station and not local Signal Strength
4 Reference Test Configuration & Distribution System:
a) Mid-High Gain VHF/UHF Broad-Band Log Periodic TV Broadcast Reception Antenna.
b) Channel Master Preamp 5’ from antenna output.
c) -30 dB Jerrold tap-point for test television tuner at Preamp output.
d) First distribution amplifier input approximately 80’ downstream from preamp output.
e) First distribution amplifier output split 3-ways:
i) First Output Port passively split two-ways; feeding 2 sets within 20’.
ii) Second Output Port actively split & amplified two-ways; feeding 2 sets @ 50’.
iii) Third Output Port actively split & amplified 5-ways; feeding 5 sets @ >75’
5 RG-6 / 75 ohm low-loss RF cable.
