The Department

The Directorate of Education and Assessment is responsible for all aspects of postgraduate O&G education and training as follows:

  • Organisation and management of all College examinations (Part 1 MRCOG, Part 2 MRCOG and Part 3 MRCOG, and the DRCOG)
  • Support for Vice President (Education) and the College’s Strategic Plan
  • Coordination and development of educational resources to support education and training (StratOG eLearning, Trainee ePortfolio, CPD ePortfolio)
  • Liaison with GMC, LETBs/deaneries and other stakeholders on education and training issues
  • Management of all curricula and associated assessment systems
  • Quality assurance systems for education and training in accordance with the GMC’s national quality and standards frameworks, including the Annual Specialty Report, externality and Trainee Evaluation Form
  • Administration of candidates and trainees in all RCOG assessment, training and education activities
  • Administration of the College’s CPD programme
  • Processes to support the development and quality assurance of the College’s educational products
  • Secretariat and project management support for committees dealing with education, assessment and training matters, specifically: Education Board, Specialty Education and Advisory Committee, Examination and Assessment Committee and associated sub-committees, Education Quality Assurance Committee, Professional Development Committee, Trainees’ Committee, Curriculum Committee and all associated sub-committees, StratOG (Core Training) Editorial Board.

Purpose

  1. To support the development of eLearning projects by liaising with clinical leads and authors, copy editing, proof-reading and uploading content to the eLearning platform
  2. To contributeto the quality assuranceprocesses for existing online resources, ensuring they are kept up-to-date and maintained to a high quality
  3. To provide a skilled helpdesk service for customers
  4. To provide support to the eLearning Editor and Heads of Education Resources, working independently as required.

Main duties

  1. Liaising with the StratOG (Core Training) Editorial Board to recruit and induct new members and authors, and ongoing liaison with Editorial Board members, peer reviewers and authors.
  2. Formatting and editing of eTutorials and articles for house style, grammar and medical/scientific accuracy. These changes will be made to live online tutorials so must be 100% accurate.
  3. Uploading new eTutorials to the website, maintaining strict version control.
  4. Working independently to design and produce eLearning elements for eTutorials using specialist software such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Presenter.
  5. Checking and clearing copyright/licensing permissions for materials used in eTutorials.
  6. Providing a skilled helpdesk service to website users on all aspects of use of the website. This can involve talking users through how to use the eLearning platform and sometimes dealing with difficult enquiries that require explanations to non-technical users.
  7. Organising Editorial Board meetings, workshops and other meetings for the Education resources team, including producing agendas, taking accurate minutes and ensuring action points are completed.
  8. Reviewing user feedback for StratOG resources, and deciding which concerns need to be escalated and to who.
  9. Having overall responsibility for the teaching resources section of the eLearning platform, ensuring that content is up-to-date and correctly formatted.
  10. Supporting the eLearning Editor with designing and producing promotional materials for resources.
  11. Liaising with internal colleagues in the Meetings, Finance, Marketing and AV teamsand external stakeholders in relation to the development of online resources.
  12. Undertake any other duties related to the job purpose, which may be necessary in the work of the team.
