Job Title: Assistant Professor in British Politics

School/Department: Politics & International Relations

Salary: £34,576-£46,414 per annum, depending on skills & experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

Job Family and Level: Research & Teaching Level 5 Extended

Contract Status: Permanent

Hours of Work: Full-time

Location: University Park

Reporting to: Head of School

The Purpose of the New Role:

The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to teaching and research within the School, in the area of British Politics.

Main Responsibilities:

·  Conduct and supervise others conducting original research, resulting in publications in nationally and internationally recognised peer reviewed journals and/ or monographs published with university or other renowned presses

·  To disseminate research findings at conferences, workshops and meetings

·  To seek and secure external research funding

·  Plan and deliver high quality taught modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

·  Supervise BA and MA dissertations

·  Supervise postgraduate research students

·  To examine assessments for first and higher degrees as required

·  To provide pastoral support to personal tutees

·  To contribute fully to School administration, as specified by the Head of School

·  To undertake further training consistent with continuous professional development

·  To work in a professional manner with other staff in the School and University

·  Any other duties as requested by the Head of School appropriate to the role and level

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications/ Education / ·  First degree or postgraduate qualification in relevant area
·  PhD in relevant area (or near to completion)
Skills/Training / ·  Extensive knowledge and understanding of the field of Politics as it relates to the advert
·  Ability to teach at all levels of the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum
·  Ability to undertake a variety of School administrative duties
·  Good interpersonal and organisational skills
·  Ability to relate to students in terms of teaching and pastoral care
·  Commitment to teamwork and collegiality
Experience / ·  Demonstrable commitment to research and publication at a national and internationally recognised level / ·  Experience of teaching in HE in the UK or at a comparable level in another country
·  A proven capacity to raise grant income from external sources
