Highland IB Refund and Expenses Policy
At the time of writing, the value of the Canadian dollar is declining. Because our IB fees must be paid in American dollars, all values below are subject to change without notice. The numbers below are based upon parity between the Canadian dollar and the American dollar and should therefore be taken as USD. Further, the fees IB charges vary year to year. For a current fee in $CDN, please contact Highland IB.
Highland’s IB Programme recognises that student may choose, for various reasons, to drop or change one or more of their IB courses. Further, we wish to ensure that students and their parents/guardians receive refunds for any registration and/or student fees not yet advanced to the IBO (International Baccalaureate Programme).
If, before the date of November 15th prior to graduation, a student completely withdraws from the IB programme, the IB registration fee and all course subject fees will be refunded, less a $100 administration fee. During this period, there will be no fee for dropping or changing courses. After November 15th, the school cannot refund the registration fee, as the IBO will not refund these fees to the school.
If, between the date of November 15th and January 15th prior to graduation, a student withdraws from one or more IB courses, but does not withdraw from the entire programme, course subject fee(s) will be refunded in full less a $25 administrative fee per course dropped. The IB registration fee cannot be refunded, as IB does not refund this amount to the school after November 15th. No refunds will be made for withdrawals after January 15th, as no refunds will be given by the IBO to Highland for these students.
Parent/guardians will be liable for the costs of any course changes made after November 15th, as the IBO charges an administration fee for any changes made after this date. Such changes include changing a course from HL to SL, or changing Extended Essay topics, for example. These fees rise after January 15th and can be considerable (approximately $150).
Diploma students who opt to become certificate (course) students but choose to continue with their TOK, CAS, or EE will have to pay fees for these options, as they are included in the Diploma fee but must be paid separately by certificate (course) students. If a refund is to accompany the dropping of one or more courses, these fees will be deducted from this refund. If no refund is forthcoming (that is, if the course or courses have been dropped after January 15th), then the parents/guardians shall be notified of the fees due.
The IBO will send student results, free of charge, to six post-secondary institutions worldwide. Unfortunately, they will only pay submissions to one Canadian and one American university. If more submissions are required beyond what the IBO will cover, parent/guardians will be responsible for these costs. (These fees are approximately $20 per request.)
