The Lowertown Community Resource Centre (LCRC) is hiring a

Coordinator for the

Lowertown East Security Committee of Ottawa (L.E.S.C.O.)

One-year contract (with possible renewal)

Salary range: $47,500 to $52,000

Under the general direction of the program manager of the LTCRC and in collaboration with the steering committee of LESCO, the Coordinator will develop a comprehensive community-based strategy to address issues of safety in the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·  Develop with various partners a comprehensive community-based strategy to improve residents’ safety in the community.

·  Build positive working relationships with residents, tenants’ associations and community partners to identify and implement programs and activities

·  Mobilize community members and other stakeholders with the view to mutual cooperation.

·  Engage community partners to:

o  organize community forums, education workshops and information sessions

o  recruit community leaders and volunteers

o  increase visibility and awareness

·  Coordinate L.E.S.C.O. activities

·  Convene L.E.S.C.O. meetings and ensure distribution of information & communication materials

·  Write funding applications to ensure continuity

·  Participate in committee work

QUALIFICATIONS:

·  Post-secondary degree in social sciences, social work, or criminology or an equivalent combination of education and experience

·  2 years experience working in a community-based setting

·  Proven abilities in the areas of community organizing, conflict resolution and advocacy

·  Experience working with multi-cultural communities, low-income communities, high-risk families

·  Experience in project management: implementation, facilitation, monitoring and evaluation

·  Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

·  Fluency in French and English

·  Availability to work flexible hours (evenings and week-ends)

·  Proficiency in working with computers and various software applications
