Good afternoon parents,
For those of you who do not know me, my name is Parker Bolt. This is my second year teaching high school Physical Education at Mediapolis. Hopefully you have already seen the syllabus that I sent home with the students on their first day of class. The first few days of school have been really good and I am really excited to work with your son and/or daughter throughout the semester. I would like to go over what the different P.E. classes have been doing so far this school year. I also want to give you a heads up on what we will be doing for the month of September.

In Team Sports class students have started their softball unit and are in the midst of their class tournaments. Each student was encouraged to bring a softball or baseball glove to class for this unit, however if they didn’t have one or forgot to bring one, the P.E. department has plenty of extras. After we finish up the softball unit we will go into flag football.

In Personal Wellness class we started this semester off by doing a walking unit. On the first day of the unit students walked and jogged around the track at their own pace for 25 minutes. The objective was to get the students heart rates up into their healthy zone, which is 65-80% of their max heart rate. In class we have also had some discussions about nutrition and what to look for in certain foods.

The Strength and Conditioning class has got off to a great start thus far. Students are currently going through a weight training introduction. In this introduction students are learning the proper form and technique for several different types of lifts. Eventually, students will use the lifts they have learned in the introduction to create their very own workout program. They are working hard and I have high expectations for what this group can accomplish.

All of the P.E. classes this far have been learning how to take their pulse and find their resting, active, max, and healthy heart rate zones. My goal this year is to provide more health and nutrition information to each class. I am excited to have the opportunity to teach at such a quality district with quality students. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Thank you for your support! Go MEPO!
