“Daniel 11” Verses 40-45 - Part 3

In the previous 2 weeks we had studied Daniel 11, verses 1-39. We were able to see how history revealed the fulfillment of all those verses.

Today we are going to study the last 6 verses, as we will be able to see that theses verses deal with the end time that we are living in now.

Daniel 11:40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

Let us look first at verse 40 and what pops out at us:

Two things pop out at us:

1.  It’s talking about the time of the end - “And at the time of the end

2.  It’s talking about two kings - “… the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him …”

Let us look at the time of the end in the light of other scriptures speaking of the same time:

Daniel 8:17 “… for at the time of the end [shall be] the vision.”

Daniel 8:19 “… for at the time appointed the end [shall be].”

Daniel 12:4 “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, [even] to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.”

Daniel 12:9 “And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words [are] closed up and sealed till the time of the end.”

12:1 And at that time (What time? The end of Probation) shall Michael (Jesus our High Priest) stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, (Seven Last Plagues) such as never was since there was a nation [even] to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, [even] to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

“… many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” This is talking about many running to and fro in the Bible and knowledge will be increased on this now unsealed book of Daniel.

The apostle Paul warned the church not to look for the coming of Christ in his day. "That day shall not come," he says, "except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed." 2 Thessalonians 2:3. Not till after the great apostasy, and the long period of the reign of the "man of sin," can we look for the advent of our Lord. The "man of sin," which is also styled "the mystery of iniquity," "the son of perdition," and "that wicked," represents the papacy, which, as foretold in prophecy, was to maintain its supremacy for 1260 years. This period ended in 1798. The coming of Christ could not take place before that time. Paul covers with his caution the whole of the Christian dispensation down to the year 1798. It is this side of that time that the message of Christ's second coming is to be proclaimed. {GC 356.1}

No such message has ever been given in past ages. Paul, as we have seen, did not preach it; he pointed his brethren into the then far-distant future for the coming of the Lord. The Reformers did not proclaim it. Martin Luther placed the judgment about three hundred years in the future from his day. But since 1798 the book of Daniel has been unsealed, knowledge of the prophecies has increased, and many have proclaimed the solemn message of the judgment near. {GC 356.2}

When was the book of Daniel’s prophecy unsealed? 1798

When did the time of the end begin? 1798

Daniel 11:40 speaks of the time of the end which is 1798.

“And at that time (What time? The end of Probation) shall Michael (Jesus) stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, (Seven Last Plagues) such as never was since there was a nation [even] to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. Daniel 12:1

The verses between Dan. 11:40 and Daniel 12:1 speaks to our time. Is it possible then that verses 41-45 apply to us?

Daniel 11:40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

Who is the king of the north? The king of the north is the Papacy, but let’s figure out from Daniel and history that that is exactly who it is.

When we studied Daniel 11:1-11 we saw how the Medo-Persian empire was overthrown by Greece and we studied that when Alexander died he had about 12 generals that fought until there were four left, and they split up the empire.

Cassander took Greece, Lysimachus took Asia Minor, Seleucus took Babylon and Syria and Ptolemy took Egypt. Then there were ongoing battles between the Seleucid kingdom which in ancient history Daniel calls the king of the north, and the Ptolemiac kingdom, called by Daniel the king of the south. Geographically they were north and south of Israel.

So we can understand that in ancient times the king of the North was the Seleucid empire comprising Syria and Babylon and the king of the south was the Ptolemaic empire of Egypt. But who is the king of the north and the king of the south in the end time which we are living in?

The kings of the north and south represent spiritual powers. They are symbolic of powers at the end of time.

The king of the north in the end time represents spiritual Babylon. This same power is identified in Revelation 17 as Babylon the great and that power is the Papacy.

The king of the south in the end time represents spiritual Egypt. This same power is identified in Revelation 11:8 as spiritual Sodom and Egypt.

Revelation 11:8 “And their dead bodies (Old and New Testament – the two witnesses) [shall lie] in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.”

Now what event was being described in Revelation 11 which verse 8 is part of the description? The French Revolution.

What did the nation of France represent during the French revolution? Atheism. They were spiritually Sodom and Egypt. Sodom was grossly immoral. Egypt represented Atheism.

"The great city" in whose streets the witnesses are slain, and where their dead bodies lie, is "spiritually" Egypt. Of all nations presented in Bible history, Egypt most boldly denied the existence of the living God and resisted His commands. No monarch ever ventured upon more open and highhanded rebellion against the authority of Heaven than did the king of Egypt. When the message was brought him by Moses, in the name of the Lord, Pharaoh proudly answered: "Who is Jehovah, that I should hearken unto His voice to let Israel go? I know not Jehovah, and moreover I will not let Israel go." Exodus 5:2, A.R.V. This is atheism, and the nation represented by Egypt would give voice to a similar denial of the claims of the living God and would manifest a like spirit of unbelief and defiance. {GC 269.2}

Spiritualistic atheism at the time of the end would be atheistic communism, and the nations adopting communism are God-less governments. So it is God-less religion verses God-less governments.

Daniel 11:40 is telling us that at the time of the end the king of the north and the king of the south would clash with one another.

You and I lived through a clash between the Papacy, the king of the north, and atheistic communism, the king of the south. It was the secret unholy alliance of God-less religion, the Papacy and the president of the United States, taking out the God-less government, the Soviet Union in 1984. We lived through that momentous time.

Last week we discussed how God always had his people teaching against error such as the Waldensian ministers of the 12th century; John Wycliffe of England in the 14th century; and John Huss and Jerome of Progue in the 15th century.

But who was it in the 16th century that sparked the Protestant Reformation? Martin Luther. He used the scriptures to define his stand on truth.

But what was created in the 16th century to stop the Protestant Reformation? It was the order of the Jesuits in the late 1530’s. What was their purpose?

Vowed to perpetual poverty and humility, it was their studied aim to secure wealth and power, to be devoted to the overthrow of Protestantism, and the re-establishment of the papal supremacy. GC 234-235.

Were the Jesuits successful in derailing Protestantism? The answer would be yes to a certain extent because as the reformers died, the reformation died in those various denominations, coupled with the infiltration of Jesuits within the various denominations. And so God had to raise up, another church movement to finish the reformation, that being the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

So if the Jesuits were “devoted to the overthrow of Protestantism, and the re-establishment of the papal supremacy,” what group would the Jesuits use every weapon of hell at their disposal to overthrow? It would be Seventh-day Adventism.

Daniel 11:41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many [countries] shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, [even] Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

What is the glorious land here quoted?

Some say the glorious land is the United States of America.

Some say the glorious land is Israel.

Some even say Seventh-day Adventism. Let’s analyze all three of them.

First let’s look at the United States. The Declaration of Independence was signed when? In 1776. The constitution was ratified when? 1789. So this is a late 18th century time frame.

Second let’s look at Israel. When did they cease to be the glorious land? When Stephen was stoned in 34 A.D. The prophecy in Daniel 9 was a probationary period of 490 years for the Jews to meet God’s conditions or be cut off as the chosen people. Before 34 AD, what made Israel the glorious land?

God’s presence. So in 34 AD God’s presence was withdrawn and Israel ceased to be the glorious land.

So if we say the United States was the glorious land; that would mean that from 34 AD until the late 18th century there was no glorious land on the earth.

Hasn’t God always had a place on this earth where He manifests His presence and His power? YES!

Israel cannot be the glorious land today and has not been for almost 20 centuries.

So can the glorious land be the United States of America?

No. But God has always had a glorious land on earth where He manifests His presence. So the United States and Israel cannot be the glorious land.

Let’s look at the 3rd possibility, Seventh-day Adventism and analyze that.

In 34 AD, where did God start manifesting His presence? In His people. In His church. Spiritual Israel.

The apostles were Seventh-day Adventists. All through the centuries God had Sabbath keeping Christians who were looking forward to the second coming.

Today the true Seventh-day Adventists are the glorious land!

Daniel 11:41 “He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many [countries] shall be overthrown: So it is really saying:

“He (the Papacy) shall enter also into the glorious land, (The Seventh-day Adventist Church) and many [countries] shall be overthrown: [countries] is a supplied word that does not belong. It is saying many Seventh-day Adventists shall be overthrown.

How would the Jesuits successfully enter Seventh-day Adventism? They would enter by infiltration and work their way up to

1.  high leadership positions in Conferences, in Unions, Divisions, and in the General Conference itself so as to affect policy. Where would be a vital place to infiltrate and change the direction of the denomination?

2.  They would infiltrate colleges and universities in general,

3.  and the seminaries in particular so as to affect the thinking of the future leaders in the denomination and the leadership at the church level, so as to affect the pillars of the faith and what we believe as a people and the standards of the church.

Doesn’t it make sense, that Adventism’s pillar doctrines such as the Three Angel’s Messages, the Ten Commandments, the 7th Day Sabbath, the State of the Dead, the Sanctuary Message, the real truth on the Second Coming and the 2300 Year Prophecy with the teaching of the Investigative Judgment, which shows us what God is doing for His people today, would be doctrines that they would like to make of no effect? Of course they would since they are cornerstone doctrines. Throughout Adventism today, the overwhelming majority of SDA churches have not preached on the sanctuary in many years.

In 1979, a brilliant Australian by the name of Desmond Ford torpedoed the Sanctuary doctrine and the Investigative Judgment. He once taught in our universities. He denied that anything of significance happened in 1844. It is obvious that he was a plant sent into this church to destroy it. Today in 2014 there are numerous SDA’s who attack that doctrine and are ashamed of it. I say if there are any SDA’s who are ashamed of our doctrines, they should not be SDA’s; and if there are SDA ministers who would not preach the sanctuary and the Investigative Judgment, they should not be in the pulpit.

Le Roy Edwin Froom was aSeventh-day Adventistministerand historian. He was the primary scholar in the 1957 disastrous book “Questions on Doctrines” which seriously compromised and undermined pillar doctrines of the historic SDA Church.
