Track & Field Para-Athlete Information

Track and Field events are offered at the NSWPSSA Athletics Championships to
Para-Athletes who qualify through their association’s carnival.
All Para-Athlete entries are to be submitted by the association’s Sports Coordination Officer as part of the association team list via the Meet Manager program.
Each Para-Athlete must have completed formal classification documentation prior to competition and must be on the Athletics Australia Classification Master List.
Para-Athletes must forward this documentation to their Association’s Sports Coordination Officer at least 14 days prior to the State Carnival.
IMPORTANT: Athletes who fail to meet this requirement will be ineligible to compete at the NSWPSSA Athletics Championships.

AGE DIVISIONS
Para-athletes are divided into two specific age categories as follows:
Junior: 8 years, 9 years, 10 years.
Senior: 11 years, 12 years, 13 years.
A competitor whose significant birthday occurs during the current year is eligible for that age event only. No competitor shall enter both junior and senior events.
EVENTS
All Para-Athlete events will be conducted as Multi-Class events.
Events are conducted in separate age and gender groups (boys / girls) in the following categories:
TRACK
Junior 100m, Senior 100m,
Junior200m,Senior 200m,
Junior 800m, Senior 800m
FIELD
Junior Shot Put,Senior Shot Put,
Junior Long Jump, Senior Long Jump,
Junior Discus, Senior Discus
RESULTS
All track events will be judged as timed finals.
All Para-Athletes results will be judged against the Multi-Disability Standards (MDS) for each classification with places awarded accordingly. The MDS Para-Athlete scheduled provides a means of comparing athletes’ performances for the purpose of competition.

CLASSIFICATIONS
All Para-Athletes are required to have a formal classification to be eligible to compete.
Classification groups are as follows:
• T/F 01 Hearing impairment
• T/F 11-13 Visual impairment
• T/F 20 Intellectual impairment
• T/F 31-34 Athletes with hypertonia, ataxia or athetosis who compete sitting
• T/F 35-38 Athletes with hypertonia, ataxia or athetosis who compete standing
• Cerebral Palsy & Acquired Brain Injury
• T/F 40-41 Athletes with Short Stature
• T/F 42-46 & T 47 Athletes with limb deficiency, muscle weakness or joint restrictions who compete standing
• T 51-54 Wheelchair (Track Events)
• F 51-57 Wheelchair (Field Events)
• T/F 60 Transplant Recipients
Each disability group has a set of minimal disability criteria that an athlete must meet in order to be eligible to compete as an athlete with a disability. Athletes must undergo specific Athlete Evaluation or Eligibility processes to obtain a classification.
Eligible Athletes are able to receive a Classification for both track and field. A prefix indicates which discipline the classification applies to. The prefix ‘T’ indicates the classification for Track events. The prefix ‘F’ indicates the classification for Field events.
Classifications for Para-Athletes are done by the governing body for their respective classification. The governing bodies, classification categories and how classifications are verified are as follows:

Para-Athlete Implement Weights
Para-Athletes will throw the shot put or discus weight applicable to their classification and age group. The implement weights for Para-Athletes will be no heavier than those thrown by able-body athletes.
