R&D Material Engineering division

Company general information:

TOYOTA is one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturers and a leading global corporation.

Founded in 1937. Toyota now sells vehicles in 170 countries and employs over 300.000 people.

Lightweight-Metal department within the Material Engineering division is responsible for the development of metallic materials for weight reduction. Our goal is to develop new metallic materials with excellent properties of formability, crash ductility, weldability etc.

Your project:

Modification of ISO test method for Hole Expansion Ratio that successfully represents material behaviour during stretch flanging.

New metallic materials are continuously introduced into automotive business for weight reduction. Edge cracking during flanging operation is one of the problems with advanced high strength steels. The aim of this project is to modify ISO hole expansion test or generate a test method that represents material behaviour during stretch flanging operation.

To develop the content of these project your main tasks will be:

1)  Investigate stretch flanging operations on actual parts

2)  Compare ISO testing for hole expansion process with investigated stretch flanging operations

3)  Find out the mechanism differences between the available test method & part processing

4)  Propose the most feasible small scale testing method & compare with stretch flanged parts

5)  Summarize results and critical parameters of the selected test method

Your profile:

-  Flexible team player and personality able to work in an independent way

-  Ideally in last year Master studies in Material Engingeering

-  Good skills in MS Excel, Word and Powerpoint
