Diary of a Wimpy Reindeer or Snowman Writing Project
Since many of you have enjoyed Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid (or others like it), your opportunity has come to model that graphic novel genre yourself.Steps you will follow:
1. Decide whether you want to write as one of Santa’s reindeer or a snowman.
a. If you choose a reindeer, you will be given a brief description of your reindeer. It can be used as a guide to how/what you should write based on your reindeer’s particular traits.
b. If you choose a snowman, you let your imagination run wild as to that snowman’s traits and personality.
2. Write diary entries from the 1st person point-of-view as your chosen character.
a. See below under “Reindeer” or “Snowman” for the days/topics for each diary entry.
b. Each diary entry must have a title & contain 3 or more details along with vivid word choice.
3. Just as Jeff Kinney does, you will include a simple stick-type drawing for each entry.
4. Attach a cover page that includes your title, author, and a sketch.
5. This does not have to be typed but can be if you do so on your own time.
We are almost half way through the year—you know what I expect, and I know what you can do when you try your best.
Final diaries are due by the end of class Friday, December 16th. Make sure you reference your rubric to know what you will be graded on.
The 3 diary entries for a REINDEER will be from the following days:
1. December 23-Only one day left until the big night out—Christmas Eve.
What have you been doing to prepare? Any certain diet? Any physical ormental preparation? Write vivid, robust descriptions and give several details.
2. December 25-The day after your journey around the world with Santa.
Any interesting, cool stories from your trip or about certain toy deliveries?
How do you feel today? Write about at least three (3) different situations or stories from last night. Once again, descriptive details are a must.
3. December 27-Okay, you’ve recovered from your one big night. Now what?
Write this entry about what you and your reindeer buddies do now until next December. The whole world is curious. Do you go on vacation? If so, write about where and what you do. Do you stay at the North Pole? If so, what goes on up there in the ‘off-season’? You get the idea.
The 3 diary entries for a SNOWMAN will be from the following days:
1. December 12 -It’s the first snow! Tell how you were made, what you are wearing and what is on your list to do this winter. Write vivid, robust descriptions and give several details.
2. Jan 29 - It’s the middle of winter, and the weather is cold! Tell about your adventures as a snowman. How are you feeling? Are you enjoying winter so
far? Write about three (3) different situations or stories from your winter.
Once again, descriptive details are a must!
3. March 27 -Winter is coming to an end, and the snow is beginning to melt.
How are you feeling? What do you do when you aren't a snowman? Do you travel as water now? Tell us about this day and how you are feeling.
