POSITION DESCRIPTION

The El Camino Community College District is now accepting applications for anticipated part-time faculty positions in the following subject areas for the spring 2005 semester:

BALLET, TAP DANCE, JAZZ DANCE , AMERICAN SOCIAL DANCE

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in dance, physical education with dance emphasis, or theatre with dance emphasis; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND Master's in physical education, physiology, theatre arts, kinesiology, performing arts, music; OR:
  • The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above, must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above OR
  • Valid California community college credential in appropriate subject.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in dance preferred. College level teaching experience preferred.
  • For ballet: ability to teach all levels of ballet, including elements of pointe and pas de deux. For tap dance: ability to teach all levels of tap, including elements of rhythm tap and the fusion of tap with other technical forms of dance including ballet and commercial dance.
  • For jazz dance : experience in hip-hop, pop lock, commercial jazz dance, and vernacular jazz dance. For American social dance: ability to teach a variety of American social dance styles, including East Coast swing, West coast swing, Lindy hop and country line dance.
  • For America social dance: ability to each a variety of American social dance styles, including Eat Coast swing, West coast swing, Lindy hop and country line dance. Ability to work in a classroom environment with a variety of students including both beginning and intermediate/advanced level students.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Part-time teach assignment in for spring 2005 semester beginning February 9, 2005.A teaching demonstration will be required during the interview process. Offer and acceptance of employment is subject to verification of all information provided on the employment application, credential(s), transcripts, fingerprint results, and tuberculosis examination as required. Candidates selected for employment will be required to provide verification of work authorization in the form of a passport, valid driver's license, or other equivalent identification, and social security card. SALARY Part-time faculty members are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semester of instruction for the District. The beginning rate is $58.77 - $75.02 (lecture), $43.02 - $57.50 (lab) per hour depending on education and experience.

5)Evidence of a valid community college credential, if applicant holds one, must also be submitted.

6)Three letters of recommendation addressing relevant experience and abilities, or placement file is highly desirable.

Official transcripts must be provided prior to final selection. Application packets not containing a completed application form, resume, and copies of pertinent transcripts will not receive consideration.
