PUBLIC SERVICES CREW LEADER I

JOB DUTIES: This position for the City performs difficult skilled work coordinating a small crew in the maintenance, repair or construction of water and sewer lines taps, appurtenances, streets, sidewalks, storm drainage, or meter servicing. This position coordinates and participates in the work of a crew, supervises and participates in the installation of water and sewer lines and taps; installs fire hydrants, valves, meters, makes service connections; servicing or reading of meters. Supervises and participates in the construction and repair of streets, potholes, and utility cuts; ensures dirt, rock, and asphalt are properly compacted. Supervises and participates in the construction and repair of sidewalks, curb and gutter, storm sewer, or driveway pipes; sets forms, establishes grade or fall, finishes concrete, lays bricks and blocks. This position also supervises and participates in the maintenance, repair, servicing, and installation of meters. Discusses job requirements with and receives detailed instructions from supervisor. Oversees the loading and transporting of equipment and materials in preparation for work. Position assigns tasks to workers in the field and inspects work in progress to assure conformance with instructions. Supervises and operates needed construction equipment. Supervises the maintenance and upkeep of machinery and tools used by the crew. Replaces landscaping damaged in construction projects. Investigates complaints and trouble calls and recommends action; communicates department policies, procedures, and plans to citizens. Complete work orders and other paperwork as required by the work area assigned. Performs related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

·  Graduation from high school and considerable experience in semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and construction work, including experience with the operation of heavy construction equipment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

CANDIDATE MUST ALSO POSSESS

·  Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License

·  Certifications by NC Water Pollution Control System Operators and NC Water Treatment Facility Operators Certification Boards are desirable.

STARTING PAY RATE: $13.79/HR.

TESTING: Finalist must submit to a Background Check and Drug Screening. EOE
