TERM 3 WEEK 5
PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Cootamundra sesquicentenary celebrations
Many of our students and staff took part in the spectacular Cootamundra 150 years parade along the main street on Saturday morning. Cootamundra Public School joined with Public Education partners EA Southee School and Cootamundra High School in an impressive display of balloons, flags and banners! Many of our students were also representing other community organisations. It was a very memorable occasion and I was so pleased to take my place with students and colleagues to represent a great public institution – Cootamundra Public School! Just for the record Cootamundra Public School was established in 1875 and is 136 years old.
Public Speaking Debating
Rosie Meares attended the Riverina final of the Mulitcultural Public Speaking Competition. The aim of the competition is to heighten awareness of issues of cultural diversity among primary students in NSW whilst developing their interest and skills in public speaking. Rosie spoke brilliantly and received recognition of her efforts with a highly commended certificate.
Priority Schools Funding Program
CPS has applied for inclusion in the Priority Schools Funding Program.
The Priority Schools Funding Program (PSFP) provides additional assistance to school communities to reduce the achievement gap for students in schools with high concentrations of
students from low socio-economic status backgrounds.
The PSFP focuses on improving students' literacy, numeracy and participation outcomes. There are currently 574 schools on the PSFP: 429 primary schools, 84 high schools, 27 central schools and 34 schools for specific purposes. This represents approximately 145,000 students or 20 per cent of all students enrolled in government schools in NSW.
The activities of the PSFP include professional learning for teachers and community members, resource materials development, research and sharing of effective practice in local networks of Priority Schools.
All families will need to complete a small confidential survey. To be eligible for funding ALL surveys must be returned. This survey will be issued early in March 2012.
Fete meeting
The Cootamundra Public School Fete is a longstanding school tradition. It gives our whole school community the opportunity to be involved in a very worthwhile event to support the students of our school. Students eagerly look forward to the Fete each year. Our first fete meeting will be held this Tuesday 23rd August in the staffroom at 7.30 pm. All parents and ideas are most welcome.
Change of date
The next P & C and School Council meetings will now be held on Tuesday 20th September at 7.30 pm.
Year 6 transition to High School
This process has already commenced with planning and the gathering of information between schools to ensure that students make a smooth transition to Cootamundra High School and get the best possible start for their high school career.
On Monday 29th August all students from our district Public Schools will be meeting staff and students at Cootamundra Public School for a day of activities conducted by staff from the High School and CPS. Lunch is provided. A transition program time table will be sent home with Year 6 students.

TRENT BARRETT SHIELD
Last Friday, boys and girls from years 3 and 4 participated in the Trent Barrett Shield at Murrumburrah. The boys played modified tackle rugby league and the girls played tag football. The day was enjoyed by all the participating students; each of our teams having three matches. The girls won two of their matches and their skills and strategies improved with each game. The boys gave their best in each game and made new friends as we had to combine with other schools to field a full team. Many thanks for the assistance provided by the parents on the day. Their help was invaluable.
