HOW TO UPLOAD AN IMAGE ON A PAGE

The below instructions refer to uploading an image on a single page (Node). If you are regularly uploading the same sort of images which are PDFs (eg Newsletters), please upload them to the PDF uploads page and grab the link from there when you need to paste it onto your page.

1. When you are editing a page, make sure your cursor is where you want the image to go.

2. Click on the image icon in the toolbar.

The following screen appears. Click Browse server.

The following screen appears. NB it will default to the last folder you have used. Click on your main site folder (eg SWCH) to display all the subdirectories under SWCH. NB: you can also add new directories here.

Quick Reference: Click Upload – Browse – Upload – Insert file.

First you need to upload the image to the directory. Click Upload.

The following screen appears. Click Browse, and select the file that you want to upload from your computer.

Once you select the file and it appears in the File section, click Upload. NB: double click on the file to insert it, or choose Open (on a Windows PC)

Your file will then appear in the list on the left hand side. Click on it and you will see a preview below. Select Insert file.

The following screen will appear. A preview of the image surrounded by Latin text will appear.

For Alternative Text, this will be blank. Type in a descriptive name, eg in the above example it would be Sydney Children’s Hospital. Another example is ‘Paediatrics Research Newsletter – June 2013’.

This text is for people who are blind or have images turned off in their browser, so the description should be brief and succinct. If this is blank, they will not know what the image was for.

If you want a border around the image, choose a pixel width in border (eg 1).

A default size for Width and Height will appear for the image. You can change the size here or by clicking on the image and dragging the bottom right corner up (to make it smaller – not recommended for enlarging). If you need a specific size, please resize in photo editing software before uploading.

Set alignment if required (eg Left/Right/Centre), otherwise leave blank.

Click on the Link Tab at the top. The following screen appears.

If you are linking to an external website, copy and paste the site’s URL (including any http or https) and paste it where it says URL.

For Target – choose a target from the drop down list. Best practice is if linking to an external site, to choose ‘New Window’ so the link will open in a new window and not under your own website.

Press OK and the image will be inserted into your page. See image below.

If the image is is too big (as in the above example), you can click on the image and will drag the bottom right hand square inwards. However it is best to know your image dimensions beforehand for consistency. Another way is to right click on the image and choose Image Properties. The below image will appear.

Choose Image Properties and change the size there.
