CALL FOR REFEREED POSTER ABSTRACTS

The Conference is hosted by five land grant universities from Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. It is designed for administrators, faculty, and staff from Cooperative Extension, research, and academic programs; private and public university representatives; K-12 educators; community outreach leaders; health and social services professionals; employers and supervisors; human resource staff; elected and appointed officials; and all others wanting to expand diversity efforts and increase cultural understanding in their communities and workplaces.

Call for refereed poster presentations are being invited for the 2018 conference on best practices, curriculum models, research, professional development training, and success stories for implementing diversity initiatives in a variety of settings as it relates to this year’s conference theme areas: Immigration, Social Justice, Inclusion, and Engagement.

Planning Sub-Committee is seeking proposals for beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of diversity learning. The proposals are peer-reviewed and notification will come by August 25, 2017, for selected abstracts.

Conference Goal:

The overall conference goal is to link people and resources together in order to better integrate diversity into programs, policies, and practices for enhancing community well-being.

Conference Objectives:

·  Showcase best practices, curriculum models, research, outreach strategies, training methods, and/or success stories for implementing community-based or work related diversity initiatives in the areas of education, community development, the health field, and the workplace.

·  To identify research needs and questions related to culturally diverse practices.

·  To network and link resources to help integrate diversity into programs, policies, and accepted practices for creating community and workplace well-being.

·  To create space for participants to examine their experience through reflective dialogue sessions.

Please follow the format on the next two pages to prepare and submit poster abstracts. The Conference Program Sub-committee will make the final selection decisions. Information you provide in this application will be used to evaluate your poster abstract and will be published in promotional information if selected. Please check to make sure all information is accurate and how you would like it to appear in print. You will be notified by August 25th, 2017, if your poster presentation has been selected for the conference.

Refereed Poster Abstracts Submission Format

NOTE: This year we move towards a refereed poster session which runs immediately before the oral presentations. Posters submitted by faculty, graduate and undergraduate students will be judged and awards will be given for outstanding posters in four categories: Immigration, Social Justice, Inclusion, and Engagement. Poster content should demonstrate work within one of the previous categories.

Prepare abstract in MS Word format.

·  Use Times Roman or Times New Roman 12-point font.

·  200 word abstract

·  So that manuscripts can be blind-reviewed, DO NOT put your name or other identifying information on/in the manuscripts.

o  For example, instead of your university’s name use [“university”].

·  Single-space abstract; but double-space between paragraphs, headings and text, tables and text, etc.

·  Center the bolded title of abstract at top of the first page; capitalize first letters of words in the title.

·  Start the body of abstract immediately following the title (with bolded, centered heading as suggested below).

·  Suggested abstract section headings: Introduction, Theoretical/Conceptual Framework; Purpose and Hypotheses, Objectives, and/or Research Questions; Methods/Procedures; Findings/Results; Conclusions, Recommendations, Discussion/Implications; and References (or another appropriate format for historical, philosophical, or qualitative/interpretive research).

·  Follow manuscript style guidelines as specified by the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.), except as modified above.

·  Please submit with a Cover Page with title and authors’ information (see below). This will be removed prior to the blind peer review.

·  Poster Presentation Guidelines: Maximum size – 48 inches wide x 42 inches tall (120 cm wide x

·  105 cm tall).

Abstract must be submitted to or no later than 11:59 p.m. EST, July 14, 2017, to be eligible for review. (Note: All submissions and the “blind” review process will be completed electronically.)

NOTE: This year’s papers and poster abstracts will be compiled and published in a Refereed Proceeding. The proceedings will be available for free. Posters will be set up in the room from 7:00 to 8:00 am on Monday and the authors must be present to discuss their work with interested individuals. Poster presentations will begin immediately after the first session. At least one author per poster is expected to be present.

The Conference Committee wants to provide sessions appropriate for individuals who are at various levels of personal development as it relates to diversity understanding and practice. Please indicate which level of learning you believe is addressed by this poster by checking one of the three options below. Your selection should be reflected in the learning objectives.

Beginning – For participants who are early in their exploration of diversity awareness; have limited

experiences in working with multicultural and diverse audiences; are ready to explore personal biases and

increase knowledge and understanding of cultural, social, and economic differences.

Intermediate – For participants who have some experience and formal / informal learning in working

with multicultural and diverse audiences; want to increase their confidence, skills, and understanding to

effectively engage and promote equity and inclusiveness in diverse settings and programs.

Advanced - designed for participants who have developed and demonstrated culturally competence in their professional and personal behaviors; seek to effectively integrate competences in program design,

implementation, and evaluation in their work with communities, schools, and workplaces.
