CALL FOR SPEAKERS

We are pleased to invite interested speakers to submit proposals for concurrent sessions at our 11th annual conference. We seek experienced, dynamic, clear speakers who can present their experience with topics related to patient safety and engage effectively with our diverse set of attendees. The sessions will address the following themes; specific topics are listed as examples only:

  • Care of the very large patient – topic examples:
  • Providing a safe physical environment
  • A safe emotional environment for patients and families
  • Safety in and while moving between various settings (e.g., home, long term care, ambulatory, acute care)
  • Biases and their effect on safety
  • Geriatric issues – topic examples:
  • Medication management
  • Dementia and fall reduction
  • Mental health and/or behavioral health – topic examples:
  • Dealing with mental health/behavioral safety challenges in non-psychiatric facilities.
  • Family/social issues
  • Keeping staff safe
  • Medication management
  • Issues related to care setting – topic examples:
  • Improving communication between SNFs and hospitals
  • Safe medication management in SNFs and assisted living facilities.
  • Implementing Lean methods in ambulatory surgery centers

Important information:

  • We do not pay an honorarium for presenting at these sessions; however, we do cover speakers’ reasonable travel costs (including lodging for out-of-towners).
  • Speakers receive FREE registration and are encouraged to attend the entire conference day.
  • Each session is 60 minutes long (inclusive of presentation, discussion, and Q&A).
  • We strongly prefer that each session have only one speaker; a request for more than one speaker (or a panel) must have a strong rationale, which will be considered by the planners.
  • Each speaker whose proposal is accepted will sign by February 8 a Letter of Agreement which specifies timeline, responsibilities, and deliverables (see sample attached). If a speaker does not meet the conditions specified in the LOA, the conference organizers may rescind the invitation to speak.

If you are interested, please complete and return the attached form (or provide in a different document the information requested on the form) by December 31, 2012. Be sure to attach the speaker’s CV or resume. Applicants will be notified of the decision by January 31, 2013.
