IMPORTANT NOTICE TO LONDONBURY RESIDENTS

Possible Delay in Opening Date of the Londonbury Pool

Traditionally the Londonbury Pool has opened the weekend before Memorial Day. This year the pool is currentlyscheduled to open Saturday, May 28, 2011. However, because of the lack of dry weather during the springof 2011 it has not been possible to complete necessary repairs to the pool bottom. These repairs include the removal of the specially formulated “sealant” from the pool bottom where it has cracked and buckled due to thefreezing and thawing of moisture underneath the sealant, and the application of new sealant. In order to properly repair the damaged areas, a sustained period of dry weather (3 to 7 days) is required to “dry out” the pool whichenables the new sealant to adhere to the pool bottom. Unfortunately, dry weather has been conspicuously absent this spring.

While the Board is still hopeful that the repairs can be completed prior to May 28, it is more likely that the repairswill not be completed in time to open the pool on the 28th. We are working with the contractor on this issue, who is dealing with an unusually large backlog of work due to the above described weather conditions, andat this point we cannot promise the pool will be available on May 28. The Board is disappointed in this turn of events, and hope residents understand the situation is beyond our control. We will keep you advised of progress on the pool repairs and when the pool will open via postings to the Londonbury website.

Volunteers Needed to Assist in Clubhouse/Pool & Surrounding Area Cleanup

As many of you may know, last year the Board authorized expenditures to remodel the exterior of the clubhouse, which included installation of a pitched roof to replace the 45 year old, chronically leaking, flat roof. Once we were confident that the interior of the clubhouse would remain dry, we authorized remodeling of the main meeting room and kitchen area. Theinterior remodeling has progressed nicely thanks to the efforts of Keith Held of Held Contracting Inc. At this point the only major item to be completed is installation of the carpeting by Aiello Flooring, which is scheduled for the week of May 16.

Following installation of the carpet,on the weekend of May 21 and 22 the Board is requesting Londonbury resident volunteers to assist in a thorough cleaning of the Clubhouse, power washing of pool furniture and the pool perimeter, and a “trash pickup” of the parking lot and the wooded area around the pool. On Saturday, the work day will begin at 10:00 amand conclude about 5:00 pm. Sunday hours will be determined following assessment of what remains to be done after Saturday’s efforts.

If you, and/or your teen-aged children are interested in helping, please contact June Ware at (412)-269-9889(H), (412) 915-0462(C) or via the net at . For manageability purposes the number of volunteers accepted will be held to about 12 to 15 people (first come, first served). The Homeowners’ Association will provide pizza and soft drinks at the end of the day on Saturday. Thanks for your help!
