SBFL Board of Directors Meeting Minutes
March 11, 2014 – Solana Beach School District Office
Attendance: Bryan Pruden, Kristin Belsky, Donna Granholm, Jackie Teague, Corey Ford, Holly Lewry, Kaya Young, Ann Rybowiak, Cindy Burns, Chris Riddle, Bill Miller, Misty Thompson, Heather Dugdale and Bill Bailey

Guests: Nancy Lynch, Superintendent and Rich Leib – School Board Member
Call to Order: 8:35am
Agenda Items:
1. Minutes – Bryan Pruden:
a. The minutes from the January 14, 2014 BOD meeting were approved.
2. Superintendent’s Update – Nancy Lynch:
a. Nancy shared that Skyline will be gaining 46 new students next year from Solana Vista. Two portables and two new teachers are being added to keep class size consistent.
b. The Envision/STEM/STEAM team is having their second meeting soon in April.
c. Solana Ranch is 90% complete with tours starting soon.
d. Terry Decker’s “Common Core Road Show” is continuing in the district.
e. California received a waiver to prevent the restriction of funds for not giving the CST test.
3. Financials –Kristin Belsky:
a. The financials for December 2013 and January 2014 were voted on and approved.
b. The Solana Vista/Skyline “Solana Beach Bash” budget (attached), presented by Corey Ford and Holly Lewry was reviewed and approved. The event takes place on May 3, 2014 at the Belly-up Tavern.
c. The Solana Pacific “Taste for Learning” budget, presented by Kaya Young, was reviewed and approved, however the event began on April 23, 2014.
d. The Board Topic of $205,549.95 was received by SBSD and reviewed and approved by the BOD.
4. President’s Report – Bryan Pruden:
a. A vote was approved to release Patrick Cooney from the BOD due to his increase in professional responsibilities.
b. First Citizens Bank has changed our account representative and we are going to explore alternative banking options. Bryan will use a list of criteria, created by the Executive Committee, to evaluate a new bank for SBFL. Options will be presented to the BOD.
c. The Strategic Planning meeting will be rescheduled to mid-May so that SBFL can better align their goals with SBSD.
5. Nominating Committee – Donna Granholm:
a. The committee met on February 11, 2014 and has a preliminary board slate. Site Presidents are most needed at this time. The goal is to obtain the applications by end of March, distribute the proposed slate to the BOD in April for a vote at the May 13, 2014 BOD meeting.
6. Committee Reports – All:
a. Site Presidents draft budgets for 2014-2015 are due mid April with a vote at the May BOD meeting. Carlos Estrella (SBSD) is meeting with the principals who will then meet with the Site Presidents to review plans for the upcoming year.
b. Solana Ranch – Jackie Teague:
§ A PTO is being developed with Marybeth Sacari and President and SBFL BOD member along with Danielle McKillion and Kimberly McSherry as VPs of Fundraising ( at total of two individuals will attend BOD meetings).
c. Solana Vista – Jackie Teague for Jen Blackwell:
§ The AFD is doing great. The Solana Beach Bash is being planned.
d. Skyline – Corey Ford and Holly Lewry:
§ The same note as above with Solana Vista.
e. Solana Pacific – Kaya Young:
§ The AFD is a currently at 67%. This week is the deadline to donate and potentially earn 4 front row tickets to graduation and a Kindle. The Spring Event is currently being planned (budget TBD) during Open House on April 23, 2014.
f. Solana Highlands – Kaya Young:
§ The Digital Dash 4.0 is planned for February 7, 2014. The “Denim for Dollars” spring event is being planned for March 29, 2014 at Wine Steals in Cardiff. The AFD is close.
g. Solana Santa Fe – Misty Thompson and Heather Dugdale:
§ The Technology Drive is starting tomorrow. There’s a new principal and new Site President – welcome Heather!
h. Carmel Creek – Jackie Teague for Atousa Golpayegani:
§ The AFD is close and a spring event is being planned.
i. Marketing – Patti Malmuth for Bill Yates:
§ The Marketing Committee is meeting and pending plans until SBSD finalizes STEM/STEAM plans.
j. Development – Patti Malmuth:
§ Amazon shopping portal is now on SBFL’s website. Purchases yield 4-8% to SBFL!
§ Patti and other representatives from SBSD visited Los Altos district (7 elementary schools) to evaluate their foundation. It includes $1,000 ask with no events or fundraisers, 70% participation yielding $3,000,000 last year! Highlights from their foundation can be found in the attachment and slides presented by Patti.
7. New Business – Bryan Pruden:
