David and Andy called the meeting to order at 1:10 PM CST.

New Members Update:

New member recruitment continues especially in specialty and international realms. Andy suggested that our SIG develop an informational brochure for distribution when recruiting. Cheri will assist Andy with a draft brochure for review at the May meeting.

Post conference call update: Ellen Hansen has resigned from our SIG due to a recent change in her position and increase in job accountabilities. She plans to keep in touch with our activities via the HL7 website and hopes to join us on future endeavors. We are now actively recruiting for a nurse with informatics expertise.

Introductions of New Members:

Hema Bisarya, new project manager at CHCA, will be assisting our SIG. She is a dietician with a wealth of expertise regarding WIC programs. Her knowledge has already proved very helpful in our WIC project.

David Milov, MD, gastroenterologist, and clinical director, EHR, at Nemours joined our SIG several months ago and was introduced on this conference call. David has hands on experience in implementation of an electronic health record.

SIG Decision Making Practices Document:

Draft document, based on 2/27/04 meeting, will be sent to SIG members prior to May 3 meeting. Final vote on this document on May 3.

HL7 Project Updates:

  • Growth Chart (Eileen Sedman)

Eileen was not available to present and this update will be tabled until our next meeting in May.

  • Prenatal to Perinatal Project (Andy Spooner)

Andy shared that he is in the beginning stages of this project and plans to attend additional HL7 training in May to advance his understanding of modeling. He also plans to e-mail Charlie Mead for his recommendations. No HL7 development framework exists to use as a template.

  • Developmental Care Project (Paul Biondich)

Paul was not available to present and this update will be tabled until our next meeting in May.

  • Structured Documents – WIC (Cheri Throop and Ellen Schwalenstocker)

Based on Liora’s feedback and Hema’s WIC expertise, this project will proceed from a federal perspective as the national standard. Liora plans to provide this project with a pilot template as framework for structured documents. She also recommends data be considered in three categories, based on the initial project work: metadata; current (client) status; and assessment data. Cheri and Hema have identified six potential documents within the federal standards depending on the specific program component. Prior to the May meeting, the use questions will be addressed and shared.

  • EHR Pediatric Profile (Feliciano Yu)

Pele has made no specific changes to the model he shared in February. He would like to refine and link all our SIG projects into the the proposed model. He also described the potential to make use of a standardized tool (Protege) for rapid prototyping. During discussion, David Milov shared that hs has experience with this tool and would be willing to assist Pele with this project.

  • Asthma Core Measures – (Cheri Throop/Ellen Schwalenstocker)

The Joint Commission will be announcing a call for recruitment of hospitals to participate in the pilot. Final data elements will be determined based on the pilot. The Pedi-QS Collaborative has recently launched a call for PICU measures. This will be the next core measure set.

April 13, 2004 HL7 Education Day (San Antonio)

The following SIG members will be participating in this training: Cheri, Andy, Hema, Carl, Aileen, Leslie, and Noorullah.

Project champions are asked to complete a project overview for presentation during the training. Andy will present projects for those who are not attending training.
