Course Objectives: 1. Apply and synthesize language and cultural skills to provide and obtain information, express emotions, exchange opinions, and create presentationson a variety of topics.

2. Synthesize strategies to comprehend written and spoken French on a variety of topics.

3. Apply language and culture skills both within and beyond the school setting to show evidence of becoming a lifelong learner.

4. Analyze the nature of language by comparing French and English grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation.

5. Apply language and cultural skills to expand knowledge in other disciplines.

6. Apply knowledge of francophone cultures to demonstrate a relationship between the products, practices, and perspectives of such cultures.

Course content:

1st semester: Chapters 5-8 Allez, viens French 3.

In depth study of France during WWII, including a study of the Affaire Dreyfus, and primary texts from the period.

2nd semester: Chapter 9-10 Allez,viens French 3.

Semester project: Rhinocéros by Ionesco


Course evaluations:

1st semester: chapter quizzes and tests, Reflective essays, research paper/presentation on French figure from the era studied

2nd semester: chapter quizzes and test, Reflective essays, Explication de texte - Rhinocéros

Key Information:

·  Students are required to keep a 1 ½ inch binder for notes and certain assignments

·  It is requested that students bring, as part of their school supplies, any one of the following: 1 box of kleenex, markers, 1 bottle of glue or 2 glue sticks. Students who choose to bring one of these items for classroom use may receive 5 points extra credit, maximum of 10 pts

·  Students should always adhere to all school rules and classroom rules

·  French will be spoken frequently and students should expect to participate in short conversations

·  ONLY 2 LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED PER SEMESTER FOR FULL CREDIT
